Bredagh senior footballers finish tough league campaign
9th October 2016

Bredagh 2-5 Carryduff 3-11

In a long and arduous league season that began six months ago on the 8th April, ended with a defeat to local rivals Carryduff on Saturday 8th September. Bredagh management rested all of the starting 15 senior players who won the Down intermediate championship for this last home league match to keep them fresh for the upcoming Ulster championship game next weekend against the Donegal champions. ...

A team made up of mostly reserve and third’s players were up against a strong Carryduff team and gave a great account of themselves throughout the game. In the 30 minutes the defence thwarted the Carryduff attacks on numerous occasions, Bredagh trailed at halftime by 5 points - 0-2 to 0-7. Conor Kelly and Kealan Devlin scoring for the Harps in the 8th and 17th minute, the sending off of Ben Scullion by referee Damien Laverty left the team with a huge mountain to climb in the 2nd half.

Niall Mullholland gave the home team a glimmer of hope when he planted a 34th minute penalty low into the bottom left corner to leave a two point margin. Carryduff pointed from a 15 meter free on the 37th minute and Kealan Devlin pointed two minutes later. Carryduff pointed again shortly after and they scored their 1st goal of the game in the 45th minute to leave it 1-03 to 1-09.

A minute later Niall Mullholland scored another penalty to reduce arrears to 3 points after Hugh Daly rose majestically to catch a high ball but was unceremoniously dragged to the ground. Carryduff upped the ante and rattled in two goals in the space of 3 minutes to end any chance of a Bredagh comeback. Bredagh’s last score came via free kick on 50 minutes, after that it was all Carryduff.
