Bredagh U10s play in South Antrim Championship

Bredagh were invited to take part in this year?s South Antrim U10 Championship which took place at Aghagallon on Sunday 7 October. Rossa, St Johns, Gort na Mona and Aghagallon were the other clubs taking part.

Bredagh played Gort na Mona in the quarter final and it was one-way traffic as the South Belfast camogs dominated all areas of the pitch. In one of the best moves of the match, the ball was cleared off the Bredagh line and travelled in a sequence of passes all the way to the other end finishing in a goal for Bredagh.

The semi-final against St Johns was a tough, tense affair and the Bredagh players had to dig deep to stay in the game. Despite Bredagh pulling level, St Johns edged ahead to win but at no time did the Bredagh camogs give up the fight.

All 15 of the Bredagh squad should be very proud of the way they played.

In the other matches, Rossa beat Aghagallon in the semi-final and went on to beat St Johns in the final.

The U10 squad was: Ciara Blaney, Meabh Deery, Ciara Downey, Meabh Downey, Sarah Guerin, Lucy Jennings, Rionach Kelly, Hannah McKegney, Rebekah McKegney, Ciara McKillop, Nuala McManus, Aoidin McPeake, Rachael McVeigh, Cliodhna Regan & Eimear Smith

Bredagh U8 & U10 at Blitz in Kilclief

25 of Bredagh's youngest camogs travelled to a County Down Blitz at the Ben Dearg club in Kilclief on Saturday 2 June.

The U10s played 5 matches against Ben Dearg, Ballycran, Liatroim, Clonduff A and Clonduff B. All of the games were very competitive and the Bredagh camogs battled hard against tough opposition. Tournament
Ita O’Connor Tournamnent at Kilclief, Saturday August 26th - Bredagh was one of ten clubs that took part in the second County Down U-10 tournament for the Ita O’Connor Trophy which is sponsored by Anne Costello in memory of her late mother. Bredagh was placed in a group with Ballycran, Liatroim A, Liatroim B and Clonduff. The first game against Liatroim B was a straightforward victory for Bredagh (8-0 to 0-0) with four goals apiece from Monica McKay and Catherine Jennings, allied to good support play from Claire Minne, Roisin Murray and Bronagh Murray. Next up was Ballycran and excellent defending by Niamh Hazard, Katherine Nevin and Catherine Jennings meant that at half-time it was all square with no scores by either team. In the second half, Maria McFarlane scored a goal which won the match for Bredagh (1-0 to 0-0). The third game against Liatroim A proved more difficult and at half time Bredagh were one goal down. However, in the second half, the midfield pair of Sarah McElroy and Aisling McFarland supplied more ball into the forwards and goals from Monica McKay and Sarah McElroy ensured a 2-0 1-0 victory for Bredagh. The last game in the group was another hard contest against Clonduff and thanks to the efforts of Megan Hughes in goal, it ended in a scoreless draw (0-0 0-0). Three wins and one draw gave Bredagh ten points and top spot in their group.

THE FINAL - Bredagh were in the final against Ballygalget who had won the other group. An exciting match with great skill and passion from both sides remained scoreless at the end of normal time. Megan Hughes again was a star in the nets. In extra-time, Bredagh conceded two goals and Ballygalget won the cup (2-0 to 0-0) for the second year. It was another great day for Bredagh camogie and all eleven players deserve enormous credit for getting to the final against very tough opponents.
