U16s on Down Panel Well done to Bredagh U16s Peita and Roísín McAlister (no relation) who both lined out for Down against Westmeath in the second round of the All Ireland B Championship at Castlewellan last weekend and gave sound performances. Peita played left full back for the whole match and Roísín played centre half back in the second half. Down had an easy victory over Westmeath.
Score: Down 10:12 Westmeath 0:2
Missing from the squad was Bredagh U16 Claire McKenna who had other commitments on the day. We wish the girls the best of luck for the next match against Derry on 20th May!

U16L Bredagh v Portaferry 8th May Bredagh 0.0 Portaferry 3.4
(report to follow)
Bredagh v Ballycran 6th May 2007 Bredagh started this match with the defence under immediate pressure, a situation which did not ease throughout most of the first half as a strong Ballycran side hit the net time and again despite some great saves by Nicole O'Connor in goal. Peita McAlister worked hard as she was forced back into a more defensive role, as did Emma Holland and all the backs who found a few very talented Ballycran players difficult to contain.
Bredagh started to show some better form in the second half conceding only one goal and found their way into the Ballycran half a few times. Weather conditions deteriorated and the referee was forced to blow the game up early. Who knows it may have been the start of come back of the year?
Ballycran 14.6 Bredagh 0.0
U16 L : Bredagh v Ben Dearg 24.4.07 Bredagh U16 camogs travelled to Ben Dearg for their second league match of
the season and battled hard despite being without several of the U16 squad.
It was a tough match as a cold mist descended and Ben Dearg took their
chances in the first half while Bredagh were still trying to settle into the
game. Half time score Ben Dearg 2.3 Bredagh 0.0. The second half saw a
different Bredagh side emerge, full of fight and determination and the
battle was fought out evenly over all areas of the pitch. With great team
work Bredagh kept the stronger Ben Dearg players at bay and, although unable
to break their duck, prevented their opponents from adding to their tally.
Final score Ben Dearg 2.3 Bredagh 0.0.
Well done girls and thanks to all those U14s who helped out so willingly.
U16's Bredagh v Portaferry -10/4/2007 Bredagh U16s played their first league fixture of the season away to
Portaferry with a seriously depleted squad - victims of the Belfast Easter
Exodus to various coastal locations around Ireland! Bredagh played a good
first half and came off at half time having conceded only 1 goal and 3
points to a strong well organised side. Goalkeeper Meabh Coulton made some
vital saves and Roisin McAlister worked tirelessly at the back clearing her
lines and moving the ball forward consistently and with great style. In the
second half an early goal by Portaferry knocked the Bredagh confidence and a
lot of damage was done during a short spell of sustained pressure. Bredagh
regrouped and with great effort from Peita McAlister, Anna Lyttle and Eimer
Kane, they got back into form with both teams showing some fine displays of
individual talent and skill at times. But it was Portafery who managed to
convert their chances into scores as they stretched their lead beyond
Bredagh's reach. Final score 6.10 to 0.0.
Rossa match There was to be an U-16 Camogie match on Tuesday 19th September at Boucher Road against Rossa. The Bredagh squad was: Clare McKenna, Laura McClorey, Deirdre Canavan, Meghan Deery, Nicole O'Connor, Peita McAlister, Róisín McAlister, Sian Deighan, Rachel Graham, Emma Holland, Niamh O'Connor, Cathy Short, Alice Donaldson, Catriona McDonnell, Sarah Deazley, Aoife Jackson, Lucy Russell and Gemma Mullan.
Gort na Móna Blitz Sunday, August 20th - Bredagh U-16 Camogs had their first taste of competition this year when they joined six South Antrim Clubs at Gort na Móna for this tournament.
Game One - Bredagh 3-1 Gort na Móna 0-1
The host club looked the livelier side at first and opened the scoring with a long range point. This was followed by some good pressure play by the hosts but they failed to convert many chances and saw one after another of their efforts go wide. Their job was made even more difficult by some valiant work by Sian Deighan in goal who blocked and cleared many chances from the goal line. Half time: Gort na Móna 0-1 Bredagh 0-0. The half time score hardly reflected the dominance of Gort na Móna but the low scoreline gave heart to the Bredagh girls who came out in the second half with all guns blazing. Peita McAlister lifted those around her with her gritty determination and Sarah Deazley got on the end of a well-placed pass to hit the back of the net. This was the jump start the girls needed and they came to life fighting for every ball and threatening the Gort na Móna goal with every attack. Peita followed up in the next minute by converting a beautifully taken point from a difficult angle. Solid defensive work from Roísín McAlister and Cathy Short kept the opposition attack under control. Laura McClory worked hard with Peita in the midfield, winning almost everything between them in the second half and and Alice Donaldson hit an excellent ground strike to find the net and consolidate a well-earned victory for a side which had looked overpowered in the first five mins.
Game Two - Bredagh 1-1 Rossa 8-7
There was less to say about this match as Bredagh came up against a very strong and skilful Rossa side who dominated throughout. Peita McAlister moved into nets and pulled off some excellent saves absorbing relentless pressure from Rossa in the first half. The midfield battled and Laura McClory coolly managed to divide the uprights with a well-taken point from a free. However the pressure was too much and Rossa notched up 4-2 to Bredaghs one point by the end of the first half. The second half started well with Deirdre Canavan and Cliódhna Quinn brought back in to add to the Bredagh attack. Laura McClory looked dangerous in possession and again managed to score, this time keeping her effort under the crossbar to score a goal - a difficult task against a well organised Rossa team. Despite their best efforts Bredagh were unable to contain Rossa who added another 4-5. Bredagh finished second in their group and Rossa went on to be the overall winners of the competition.
