U12 HL: Carryduff 0-0 5-3 Bredagh
Fresh from a clean sweep of successes in the first league programme, Bredagh began the new U 12 league series with a comprehensive eighteen points win over near neighbours Carryduff on Monday evening. Although the outcome was never in doubt, Carryduff put up a spirited performance, particularly in the first half when the held Bredagh to just two points.

Bredagh forwards were guilty of squandering several easy chances early on but a cross wind made accurate shooting difficult. They opened their account after 12 minutes with a long range point from Conor Costelloe. Sean Mc Gourty increased Bredagh’s lead just on the stroke of half time with the Carryduff defenders managing to keep out several goal-bound efforts.

Half Time: Carryduff 0-0 Bredagh 0-2

Bredagh eventually got to grips with things in the second period and started to play the ball faster into the forwards. Tom Doherty pointed after five minutes as Bredagh introduced Collins, Mongan and Quinn to the fray. The telling score came from full forward Kaelan Power as he slammed home from close range to put daylight between the sides. Carryduff rarely threatened after this and when they did, Odhran Devlin once again proved equal and kept another clean sheet. Kaelan Power blasted a second goal from a Mc Gourty assist and Daniel Devlin finished matters off when he accepted a poor defensive clearance to shoot Bredagh’s fifth goal with two minutes on the watch.

Summary
Overall, Bredagh did enough to get through this one without ever reaching the heights attained in some of their previous games this season. There were solid performances all over the pitch with full backs Conor Francis and Ryan Goldsmith and the half back line of Rory Doyle, Mark Patterson and Donal Smyth catching the eye. Captain, Daniel Devlin led by example in midfield and was ably assisted by Conor Costelloe. Kaelan Power continues to get scores at will and the consistent Sean Mc Gourty again showed glimpses of brilliance. Tom Doherty got good support from Sean Blaney and Damian Hanrahan in attack.

Training continues on Wednesdays at 6.30pm and on Saturdays at 2pm in Cherryvale. Watch the web site for news of next fixture. We are drawn against Liatroim on June 21st which clashes with feile weekend so we may need to seek a postponement.

Bredagh squad and scorers: Odhran Devlin; Eoin Acton; Conor Francis; Ryan Goldsmith; Rory Doyle; Mark Patterson; Donal Smyth; Conor Costelloe (0-1); Daniel Devlin; (2-0) Tom Doherty (0-1); Sean McGourty (1-1); Damien Hanrahan Sean Blaney; Kaelan Power (2-0); Stephen Young; Ronan Quinn; Peter Mongan; Rory Collins.

U12 HL: Portaferry 0-0 2-4 Bredagh
Unbeaten Bredagh finished off their first series of league fixtures with a comfortable win in the blistering heat at Portaferry on Saturday. They mastered the big pitch, the soaring temperatures and the late withdrawal of influential midfielder Daniel Devlin through illness to record their first ever win on Ards soil.

Tom Doherty opened Bredagh’s account mid way through the opening half with a long range point and midfield dynamo Sean Mc Gourty extended their lead on 15 minutes. He and partner Conor Costelloe shaded the midfield exchanges in the first half and Costelloe put three points between the sides when he fired over the bar from 30 yards. With relentless pressure on the Portaferry backs, it was no surprise when Kaelan Power goaled in the 20th minute capitalizing on a defence mix up. Portaferry had a few chances to get off the mark but Conor Francis, Ryan Goldsmith and Ronan Quinn in the Bredagh full back line were in no mood to concede.

Half Time: Portaferry 0-0 Bredagh 1-3.

Portaferry raised their game in the second half with Barry Trainor prominent in the middle but despite sustained periods of possession they couldn’t put any scores on the board. They found stern resistance from the Bredagh half back line where Donal Smyth, Mark Patterson sand Rory Doyle all got the better of their opponents. Crucially, Conor Costelloe did a tremendous marking job on the impressive Trainor, the Ports dangerman.

Tom Doherty steered over another point with ten minutes remaining as Odhran Devlin came out of the goal to operate in the full forward berth. Damian Hanrahan donned the keeper’s jersey and kept a clean sheet.

Bredagh’s superiority was confirmed when a good forward move involving Sean Blaney and Stephen Young, left Niall Smyth to hammer home Bredagh’s second goal and seal an emphatic victory. It was very pleasing to see this group of talented and dedicated hurlers get their just rewards. Some of the team play and skill levels were a joy to watch.

Bredagh begin their new league campaign in Section 1 with an away fixture at Carryduff on Monday 9th June at 7.45pm. Training resumes on Wednesdays at 6.30pm and continues on Saturdays at 2pm in Cherryvale.

Bredagh squad and scorers: Odhran Devlin; Ryan Goldsmith; Conor Francis; Ronan Quinn; Donal Smyth; Mark Patterson; Rory Doyle; Sean McGourty (0-1); Conor Costelloe (0-1); Tom Doherty (0-2); Sean Blaney; Kaelan Power (1-0); Stephen Young; Damien Hanrahan; Niall Smyth (1-0).

U12 HL: Bredagh 3-01 1-05 Liatroim

Bredagh encountered their stiffest test to date this year when coming from behind to pip Liatroim by two points in a hard fought contest at Cherryvale.

Both teams played splendid hurling on a makeshift, shorter pitch with the visitors quickest to adapt. Their danger man Mc Crickard repeatedly reeked havoc through the middle and gave an exhibition of point scoring in the first half. However Daniel Devlin was able to shackle him in the second half allowing Bredagh to gain the ascendancy and to dominate the midfield exchanges.

Liatroim with wind assistance, deservedly led by three points at the break with Bredagh staying in touch thanks to a point off the stick of Conor Costelloe and a goal from the same player on the stroke of half time.

Liatroim stretched their lead to four points five minutes after the restart but this was to be their final score. With Sean Mc Gourty and Mark Patterson particularly dominant, Liatroim were finding it difficult to get out of their own half and the pressure told when Kaelan Power goaled to bring only a point between the sides.

The all important score came with four minutes remaining. Sean Blaney crossed the ball from the right and when the keeper could only half clear, Daniel Devlin was on hand to poach what proved to be the winning goal.

Bredagh have their courageous keeper Odhran Devlin to thanks for a string of fine saves despite shipping a heavy knock early in the first half. Ryan Goldsmith was again solid in defence along with Tiernan Curran, Peter Mongan in the right corner. Ronan Quinn came on for Rory Collins and kept the Liatroim forwards quiet.

Tom Doherty and Donal Smyth tried hard in the three quarter line with Damian Hanrahan and Niall Smyth and later Rory Doyle making full use of the space created by the roaming Conor Costelloe.

Summary
Bredagh travel to Portaferry on Saturday 31st May for another tough game but this performance will have to be bettered to take anything from the Ards.

Training continues on Wednesdays (6.30 pm) and Saturdays (2.00pm) at Cherryvale.

Bredagh squad and scorers: Odhran Devlin; Peter Mongan; Ryan Goldsmith; Rory Collins; Tiernan Curran; Mark Patterson; Kaelan Power (1-0): Daniel Devlin (1-0); Sean McGourty; Tom Doherty; Sean Blaney; Donal Smyth; Conor Costelloe (1-1); Damien Hanrahan; Niall Smyth; Paddy O'Neill; Ronan Quinn; Rory Doyle.

U12 Friendly: Bredagh 2-4 0-0Carryduff

In near perfect conditions on Saturday 9th May Bredagh u-12s took on their Carryduff counterparts in a friendly encounter. With the visitors slightly depleted in numbers four Bredagh regulars were loaned for the occasion. Both teams showed tremendous effort and produced an interesting contest.
From the outset the Bredagh defence was tightly marshalled by Eoin Acton, Mark Patterson and Christy Carlin, with Odhran Devlin successfully protecting his net for the third game in a row. Newcomer Ryan Goldsmith has been the find of the season and showed real promise in the half-back line while his more experienced colleagues Conor Francis, Damien Hanrahan and Niall Smyth provided the springboard for successive Bredagh attacks.

However, the resilient Carryduff team, for whom the Bredagh quartet of Ronan Quinn, Rory Doyle, Peter Mongan and Tiernan Curran were prominent, restricted the boys in maroon to long range efforts from Sean Blayney and Sean McGourty before centre forward Daniel Devlin got the first point after 12 minutes. At this point Paddy O`Neill and Conor Costelloe entered the fray and it was man of the match Costelloe who extended Bredagh's lead with a fine goal on 15 minutes. After that score Bredagh never looked back with Daniel Devlin adding a second goal before half time.

The second half saw the Bredagh forward line lead by Kaelan Power, Rory Collins and Sean Blayney exerting constant pressure. Excellent team work was the order of the day and ultimately this led to three consecutive points off the stick of Tom Doherty. In the last moments Stephen Young was unlucky not to goal with a fine effort.

Summary
In the end this was a comfortable win but Carryduff will undoubtedly be back to full strength for the league game. The Bredagh lads know that they will need to continue to put the effort in at training on Wednesdays (6.30 pm) and Saturdays (2.00pm) but are showing real progress.

Bredagh squad and scorers: Odhran Devlin; Eoin Acton; Mark Patterson; Christy Carlin; Niall Smyth; Conor Francis; Ryan Goldsmith; Sean McGourty; Damien Hanrahan; Sean Blaney; Daniel Devlin (1-1); Tom Doherty (0-3); Rory Collins; Kaelan Power; Stephan Young; Conor Costelloe (1-0); Paddy O'Neill; Tiernan Curran; Ronan Quinn; Peter Mongan; Rory Doyle.

Friendly match: St Paul's 0-0 7-5 Bredagh
Our U12 Hurlers were in Holywood on Saturday to take on St Pauls in a challenge match. This was the first ever outing for this very young St Pauls team and they deserve tremenduous credit for putting up such a formidable performance. The scoreline was of little consequence in the end and there's little doubt from the evidence on show that hurling is thriving in the host club and that can only be good for the development of the game in the county.

Bredagh played some scintillating stuff despite missing some key players on feile duty in Portaferry. Tom Doherty shot five brilliant points and continues to get better with every game. Sean Blaney and Damian Hanrahan looked a natural midfield pairing and gave the attack plenty of service upon which they thrived: Tiernan Curran and Stephen Young scoring two goals apiece. Odhran Devlin rounded off the scoring with a super strike. However, the biggest cheer of the day was reserved for Rory Collins who scored his first ever goal for Bredagh after a pass from Christy Carlin.

There were excellent performances from Conor Francis, Niall Smyth and another newcomer Ryan Goldsmith who got plenty of encouragement from the impressive Donal Smyth at centre back. Kaelan Power fresh from his judo exploits, belatedly entered the fray in the last quarter and as both teams stepped off the mat at the end, it was St Pauls who deservedly took the biggest bow. They will have bigger and better days ahead. Bredagh, meanwhile continue their excellent start to the 2008 season.

Training next Wednesday at 6.30pm and Saturday at 2pm in Cherryvale.

Bredagh squad and scorers: Odhran Devlin 1-0; Christy Carlin; Conor Francis; Rory Collins 1-0; Ryan Goldsmith; Niall Smyth; Donal Smyth; Sean Blaney; Damian Hanrahan 1-0; Tom Doherty 0-5, Tiernan Curran, 2-0; Kaelan Power; Stephen Young 2-0.

U12 League: Castlewellan 0-0 9-5 Bredagh

Bredagh travelled to Castlewellan on Saturday hoping to build on the previous week's display at home to Ballycran. With midfielder Sean Mc Gourty carrying a wrist injury, Bredagh mentors shuffled the pack with wholesale positional switches the order of the day.

Castlewellan were a little ring rusty given this was their opening encounter but there was enough evidence from their display to suggest they can improve as the season evolves.

Bredagh found the net five times in the opening half, the first a rasper from centre forward Donal Smyth. Sean Blaney followed with a goal direct from a free before Caolan Power helped himself to a brace of goals in quick succession. What was more eye-catching though was the quality of the point taking; Tom Doherty and Daniel Devlin grabbing two apiece before the break.

Second half
Midfielder Mark Patterson netted for Bredagh on the restart as Bredagh continued to impress. Daniel Devlin slotted over a brilliant "65" before Conor Francis, now operating in the half forward line added two goals and a point in a mater of minutes. Goals from Caolan Power and newcomer Stephen Young put the gloss on an emphatic Bredagh performance.

Summary
Several of the younger Bredagh boys stood out, none more so than Niall Smyth who was very solid at wing back. Tom Doherty had an excellent game and Odhran Devlin impressed when swapping his keeper's jersey for a forward berth. Sean Blaney was very prominent along with Tiernan Curran and while Christy Carlin and Rory Collins were sound in defence, Caolan Power's return added bite to the attack. It all added up to another fine Bredagh performance.

Bredagh have no league fixture next week but training continues on Wednesday evenings in Cherryvale with a start time of 6.30pm and Saturday at 1.30pm.

Bredagh squad and scorers: Odhran Devlin, Christy Carlin, Conor Francis 2-1, Rory Collins, Eoin Acton, Daniel Devlin 0-2, Niall Smyth, Mark Patterson 1-0, Damian Hanrahan, Sean Mc Gourty, Sean Blaney 1-0, Donal Smyth 1-0, Tom Doherty 0-2, Tiernan Curran, Caolan Power 3-0,Stephen Young 1-0.

U12 League: Bredagh 3-03 1-01 Ballycran

Bredagh welcomed Ballycran to Cherryvale on Saturday for the opening match of the 2008 league campaign. Hopes are high for this young Bredagh panel this year and they certainly lived up to all those expectations with a superb display based on teamwork and fast open hurling.

Ballycran to their credit made this an enjoyable hard fought encounter but struggled to cope with the power of the Belfast lads who are beginning to believe in their undoubted ability after taking some hard lessons in this company last season. Everyone was a star in a maroon shirt but the spine of the team were particularly influential in showing example to some of the younger faces.

Bredagh dominated the early exchanges when full forward Tiernan Curran latched onto a Niall Smyth pass to goal from close range. Tom Doherty, Donal Smyth and Stephen Young all went close soon after but Bredagh pulled further ahead mid way through the half with first a point and then a superb goal strike from Daniel Devlin. Ballycran answered with a white flag as they slowly began to find their rhythm.

They might have reduced the margin only for a storming performance from a full back line where Mark Patterson was having his best game in a Bredagh shirt ably assisted by Peter Mongan and Christy Carlin. Ballycran's midfield pairing got little change out of Daniel Devlin and Damian Hanrahan and any forays were stoutly dealt with by the towering Conor Francis in a new centre back berth, Sean Blaney to his right and newcomer Ethan Strong in the left half back berth. Odhran Devlin was also safe as houses between the sticks.

Second half
Bredagh turned round with a strong wind at their back and soon extended their lead when their outstanding centre forward Sean Mc Gourty fired over a great point after five minutes. The score of the game was to follow and cement Bredagh's superiority, Daniel Devlin capitalising on a poor clearance and unleashing an unstoppable rocket to the roof of the Ballycran net. Bredagh introduced Eoin Acton to the fray and the tough tackling wing back was soon exerting is influence. Ballycran had their best moment with a superb goal in the closing stages. It was the mercurial Mc Gourty who had the final say with another long range point to leave the final score Bredagh 3-3 Ballycran 1-1.

Panel: Odhran Devlin, Peter Mongan, Mark Patterson, Christy Carlin, Sean Blaney, Conor Francis, Ethan Strong, Daniel Devlin, Damian Hanrahan, Tom Doherty, Sean Mc Gourty, Donal Smyth, Niall Smyth, Tiernan Curran, Stephen Young, Eoin Acton.

Bredagh travel to Castlewellan next week in a very positive frame of mind. This team certainly has potential and can only improve with each game. Training has now commenced on Wednesday evenings in Cherryvale with a start time of 6.30pm. Players to meet in Cherryvale at 12.45pm sharp next Saturday.

2007 - Under 12 Hurling
Bredagh Under 12 hurlers played in the Down league premier section alongside the formidable trio of Ards clubs. Whilst this proved to be a tough proposition, the performances were very encouraging and by the close of the hurling year, it was certainly evident that many of our young hurlers relished the step up to top grade hurling.

Perhaps our best performance of the season was the home encounter with eventual league winners, Portaferry. A barrage of goals in the last quarter flattered the Ports who were quick to praise the spirit and skill levels on the Bredagh boys. We matched Ballygalget for long periods at Cherryvale with the all important ability to take scores and finish, the difference between the sides.

This cohort has been together over the last two seasons and look to be steadily improving. Several of the lads turned out for the U13 side recently and gave an excellent account of themselves in several challenge matches arranged after the summer break.

It has been particularly heartening to watch the progress of some who, up until the start of this season had never held a hurley in their hand. The numbers attending training were up on the previous season and match day squads generally exceeded twenty players.

Most of this year’s team are still U12 next year and Bredagh mentors have high hopes for the 2008 campaign. Despite losing Enda Mc Gonnigle; Oisin Smylie and Conall Gormley and the stylish Aidan Donaghy, we can still look to the likes of the diminutive Sean Mc Gourty and his cousin Daniel Devlin to rally the troops next year whilst the rapidly improving Mark Patterson is one to keep an eye on.

There were two keenly contested challenge games against the Pearses club with Bredagh narrowing edging out the South Antrim lads on both occasions.

The finale to the season was the Carryduff tournament played in “summer” sunshine in mid October. Bredagh emerged from the group stages to make the semi-finals but lost out to the host club by two points.

The Bredagh Management team would like to commend all the players for their attitude, exemplary behaviour and sportsmanship shown throughout the entire season. Thanks lads!

U12 Hurling challenge: Bredagh 4-02 4-01 Pearses
Bredagh's U12 hurlers scraped through by the narrowest of margins at Cherryvale on Saturday 15th September against a much improved Pearses side. There was plenty of daylight between these two sides when they met earlier in the season but the North Belfast outfit came very determined to turn the tables this time.

In a whirlwind opening quarter, Bredagh stormed ahead with goals from Devlin, Power and Hanrahan as Pearses struggled to find their feet. Donaghy and Mc Gourty added points to leave the half time score 3-2 to 0-0.

Second half
In the second half, Bredagh took their foot off the gas and allowed Pearse back into the game. With five minutes remaining the gap was down to four points with the away side pegging Bredagh deep into their own half. The vital score came after a goal mouth scramble with Peter Mongan getting the finishing touch to the net. Despite their best efforts, Pearses couldn't close the gap and Bredagh ran out deserving winners in the end.

Panel and scorers: Odhran Devlin; Mark Patterson; Enda Mc Gonnigle; Christy Carlin; Donal Smyth; Sean Mc Gourty (Capt) (0-01); Eoin Acton; Conal Gormley; Daniel Devlin (1-1); Aidan Donaghy; Sean Blaney; Tiernan Curran; Tom Doherty; Caolan Power (1-0); Conor Francis; Damian Hanrahan (1-0); Conor Lally; Oisin Smylie; Rory Collins; Liam Francis; Peter Mongan (1-0); Michael Mc Manus.

u12 Hurling: Bredagh 0-0 3-12 Portaferry
Bredagh went into this game minus several key players and on paper this was always going to be a tough assignment, Portaferry coming to Cherryvale unbeaten in the league to date.

First half defensive heroics particular by Odhran Devlin in the nets and full back Aidan Donaghy kept Portaferry to five points with the Bredagh lads competing or every ball and showing no signs of being overawed. Portaferry, to their credit, tagged on some delightful points in the second half and only in the final 10 mins did they move into the comfort zone with three well taken goals.

Bredagh go into the summer break now but can take a lot of positives from this outing. Sean McGourty worked tirelessly at centre back and was easily the best player in a maroon shirt. Enda Mc Gonnigle also caught the eye and Tiernan Curran tried hard in the centre forward berth.

With the format or this league now opening up to some of the division two teams, Bredagh can build on the experience of this campaign and hopefully go on to improve and get some wins in the second half of the season. Only two of the players on view today are over age next year so with continued effort and determination, there is every reason to be hopeful that better times are ahead.

U12H: Bredagh 2-01 6 -03 Ballygalget
Bredagh U12 hurlers produced another encouraging performance in this extremely tough Down League Division 1. This was a much closer encouter than the corresponding away fixture three weeks ago chiefly because Bredagh are begin to believe in themselves and are becoming more competitive with every game.

Playing with the assistance of a strong wind in the first half, Sean Blaney and Caolan Power hammered home Bredagh's first goals of the campaign. Ballygalget managed to score 3-3 in reply, playing their usual brand of fast open hurling and taking some nice scores from long range.

In the second period, the wind seemed to get even stronger but the Bredagh defence were a formidable force in their attempts to stem an anticipated Ballygalget avalanche. All six defenders were solid and did everything asked of them with Donaghy in goals pulling off some fine saves. Like last week, the Bredagh score of the game was a point, this time from midfielder and captian Daniel Devlin.

Bredagh mentors were very pleased with the spirit and determination shown by the men in maroon particularly with several regulars missing.

Next Saturday ( 9th June) Bredagh travel to Portaferry with players asked to report to Cherryvale at 12.30pm sharp.

Squad:, Odhran Devlin; Mark Patterson; Conor Francis; Eion Acton; Tom Doherty; Lawrence Whiffen; Donal Smyth; Daniel Devlin Sean Mc Gourty; Sean Blaney; Aidan Donaghy; Conal Gormley; Rory Collins; Daniel Mulvenna; Caolan Power; Ronan Smyth; Conor Costello; Oisin Smylie; Gary Lavelle; Michael Mc Manus

u12 Friendly: Bredagh 6-02 2-00 Pearse's

Bredagh U12 hurlers welcomed North Belfast side Pearses to Cherryvale on Saturday and posted their first win of the year. Despite missing several regulars, Bredagh still had too many aces for a young Pearses side that battled right to the final whistle.

Although Bredagh rattled the net six times, the score of the game was a point from Damian Hanrahan, fetching a high ball under pressure and turning to split the posts from 40 metres. Pearses rallied in the second half as the Bredagh mentors introduced some new blood with Michael Mc Manus and Gary Lavelle doing well on their debuts.

It is heartening to see squad numbers increasing and to note the progress of some of the newcomers. We need everyone fit and raring to go next week as Bredagh return to Down league action with a home tie against Ballygalget; throw in at 2pm. Players are asked to meet at Cherryvale 1.30pm sharp.

Squad: Odhran Devlin, Mark Patterson, Enda Mc Gonnigle, Lawrence Whiffen, Niall Fitzpatrick, Conor Costelloe, Conor Francis, Sean Mc Gourty, Daniel Devlin, Sean Blaney, Tiernan Curran; Tom Doherty; Ronan Smyth, Damian Hanrahan, Donal Smyth; Niall Smyth, Conal Gormley, Christy Carlin, Eoin Acton, Michael Mc Manus, Gary Lavelle, Rory Collins,

u12 Hurling Friendly - Bredagh v Pearse's (Antrim)
Bredagh u12 hurlers have a friendly match with North Belfast side Pearse's on Saturday 26th May. Meet at Cherryvale at 1.30pm.

Bredagh 0-00 4-07 Ballycran

Ballycran were the visitors to Cherryvale for this Down U12 Hurling league encounter.

Bredagh mentors were looking for an improvement from the Ballygalget game and the lads certainly didn’t disappoint. The first half was a tenacious hard fought encounter with some stylish hurlers form both camps on view. Ballycran, as expected played open, direct hurling with Egan and Breen prominent in the midfield area.

The Bredagh defence stood firm under pressure with Donal Smyth, Conor Francis, Niall Fitzpatrick and Christy Carlin all having excellent games. Young Eoin Acton impressed in the half back line alongside the classy duo of Conor Costello and Aidan Donaghy. Oisin Smylie and Sean Blaney tried hard on the “40” but the Crans held firm thanks chiefly to the efforts of Savage at full back.
Bredagh found themselves trailing 1-3 to 0-0 the break, the Ballycran goal coming right on the short whistle.
Half time Bredagh 0-00 1-03 Ballycran
After the break, the Kircubbin men found another gear despite heroics from Daniel Devlin and Sean Mc Gourty in the middle. Odhran Devlin pulled off a string of fine saves with first half netminder Donal Smyth and his namesakes, Ronan and Niall now operating in the half forward line. Try as the might, Bredagh couldn’t raise a flag although Lawrence Whiffen, Caolan Power and Mark Patterson came close.

Bredagh introduced more reinforcements in the final quarter whilst Ballycran continued to tag on the scores to secure the points.

We keep saying that the standard of hurling is improving at underage level in the club. Whilst it might not have been reflected on the scoreboard today, the lads can’t be faulted for lack of effort and commitment.

Bredagh return to league action in three weeks time with a home tie against Ballygalget. Please watch the website as several clubs have been in touch re challenge games.

Bredagh 8-3 Carryduff 1-1
Challenge game, Saturday September 16th - at Carryduff - Bredagh 8-3 Carryduff 1-1

Bredagh 7-1 Carryduff 1-0
Go Games, Saturday May 13th - a very sporting contest between the local rivals took place at Cherryvale with Bredagh converting more of their chances to register the win. Carryduff started the brighter and were first on the scoreboard with a well-taken goal. Bredagh rallied and scored three goals to finish the half 3-0 to 1-0. Ronan Smyth and Lorcan Smylie each scored but the best of the first half was Daniel Mulvenna’s first-time pull to the bottom corner giving the Carryduff defence little chance. In the second half Bredagh played against a stiffening breeze but the defence, well-marshalled by Joe Shields, Michael Derry, Sean McGuigan, Oisin Symlie and Aidan Donaghy, held firm. Carryduff had a couple of good chances but Bredagh attack stepped up the gears and scores from Daniel Devlin, Declan Magee, Lorcan McMullan and Ruairi Sheridan saw the home team secure the win. It was very encouraging to see seven different Bredagh scorers on the scoreboard.
Summary: a good second half performance gives something for the boys to build on. Evening training will start next Tuesday at 6.30 sharp. It will be over at 7.30 but there will be an opportunity for the kids to watch the seniors play Ballycran in their Division 2 League match.

Award for Aaron
Lorenzo McMullan presented Aaron Maguire with his new hurley stick for his goal of the season at Indoor Hurling. Aaron dribbled the full length of the hall at Rosario before smashing the sliothar to the net.

Indoor Review
Bredagh Indoor Squad 2006. Back row, left to right: Ronan McKegney, Peter Horner, Ruairi Sheridan, Joe Shields, Ciaran McFarland. Front row: Michael Deery, Niall Irwin, Oisin Smylie, Caolan Schiable, Lorcan Smylie.

WEEK ONE RESULTS
Saturday, January 14
Bredagh 3 Randalstown 4
Bredagh 5 St Enda's 4
Bredagh 12 Ballymena 8

WEEK ONE REPORT
Bredagh got off to a great start in their first three matches. The Randalstown game was a seven-goal thriller that could have gone either way. Niall Irwin scored all three Bredagh goals. Then came another exciting encounter with St Enda's, featuring nine goals. Niall again claimed all of the Bredagh scores as they came out on top. The last game was even better with an amazing twenty goals in an absolute cracker of a contest! The teams were much closer than the scoreline suggests and both teams scored some superb goals, including a headed goal, never seen before in indoor hurling! The crowd were enthralled by the game and by some brilliant one-handed hurling from Caolan Schiable. The icing on the cake was a hat-trick from Peter Horner and another five goals from Niall Irwin. Ciaran McFarland and Ronan McKegney also hit the target. All ten players featured in all three games and they all gave terrific performances. Bredagh tied with two other teams tied for top spot in the group - Gortnamona and Randalstown also had two wins each while St Enda’s and Ballymena had one win each.

WEEK TWO RESULTS
Saturday, January 21
Bredagh 3 Gort na Mona 4
Bredagh 7 Carryduff 4

WEEK TWO REPORT
Bredagh won one game and lost one game on Saturday January 21st. The first game could have gone either way but Gortnamona probably deserved to shade it in the end. They were the slicker team though Bredagh battled hard to match them and with midfield general Ronan McKegney driving them on, Bredagh nearly provided a tournament upset. Ronan scored two of our goals with the third coming from Ciaran McFarland. The second game was another cracking game with great indoor hurling from both sides in the Co Down derby. Carryduff went three goals up before Bredagh settled and started to claw their way back into the game. Positional changes throughout the game led to Ciaran McFarland playing goals, defence and forwards, where he scored a hat-trick. Ruairi Sheridan also scored three and Ronan McKegney one. Aaron Maguire and Mark Quinn were outstanding in their first taste of tournament hurling, while Oisin Smylie and Peter Horner seem to save their best hurling for this tournament.

WEEK THREE RESULTS
Saturday, January 28
Bredagh 3 St Teresas 5
Bredagh 0 Cushendun 7
Bredagh 3 Swatragh 1

WEEK THREE REPORT
Bredagh were promoted to Division Three and played their matches in Ballymoney. The first match was fairly even with Bredagh's goals from Niall Irwin (2) and Aidan Donaghy. In the second game, the boys battled hard against a stronger and more skilful Cushendun side and were unlucky not to score. Finally, they showed their character by coming back from a goal down at half-time against Swatragh to end with a win. Again, the scorers were Niall Irwin (2) and Aidan Donaghy. Aidan in fact had three great games against older opposition.
Squad: Aidan Donaghy, Niall Irwin, Caolan Schiable, Oisin Smylie, Lorcan Smylie, Ruairi Sheridan, Mark Quinn, Michael Deery.

WEEK FOUR RESULTS
Saturday, February 4
Bredagh 2 Glenravel 5
Bredagh 2 Rasharkin 6

WEEK FOUR REPORT
The U-12s completed their campaign by losing to Rasharkin (two goals from Ciaran McFarland) and to Glenravel (goals from Ciaran McFarland and Eoghan Curran). The squad really enjoyed their four weeks of competition in this League though they found it tough going after being promoted to Division Three after the first two weeks. The long journeys to Ballymoney met with four defeats out of five though the boys battled hard and did their club proud. Ciaran McFarland was the star player on Saturday, moving to midfield and scoring three goals. Eoghan Curran played for his first time in the tournament and scored a piledriver from the half-way line. Lorcan Smylie was outstanding in goals, while Oisin Smylie and Michael Deery were superb in the Bredagh defence all through the League. Aaron Maguire fought for every ball up front and was unlucky not to score. Many thanks are due to Eugene Irwin for organising the Bredagh boys (and their parents!) for all the early starts to take part in this League. Also thanks to John Deery and Aidan McKegney for their help with transport, and to the tournament organisers.
Tournament squad: Oisin Smylie, Lorcan Smylie, Caolan Schiable, Ciaran McFarland, Niall Irwin, Ronan McKegney, Joseph Shields, Ruairi Sheridan, Mark Quinn, Eoghan Curran, Aidan Donaghy, Aaron Maguire.
