U10s Mini-Blitz at Cherryvale
The U10s played two matches against Bryansford and Clann Eireann. The girls were evenly matched against Bryansford and the match ended in a draw. Clann Eireann proved too strong for Bredagh in the second match but to their credit, the Bredagh girls stuck well to their task and never gave up.

Team: Amy Magee, Anna Doyle, Aoife Mageean, Ciara Blaney, Doireann Sheridan, Emma Carlin, Etaoin Devlin, Kathryn Browne, Niamh Fitzpatrick, Sinead Murray, Rebekah McKegney.

Thanks to the referees and helpers on the day and thanks to all the parents who brought tea and coffee and biscuits!

Under 11 Tournament
The Bredagh Under 11 girls enjoyed a great day out at the Moneyglass blitz last Saturday
The U11 girls had three matches altogether against Moneyglass, Ballymaguigan and Glenariff. The girls won the first two matches and competed well but lost out to Glenariff in the last match. The team worked hard for each other throughout the day and each girl learnt a lot.
Kathryn was excellent in goals in her half in goals and did well as a forward winning the ball when outfield. Meadbh made a great contribution throughout the day, mostly in defence and was quick to the ball and strong in the tackle. Aine read the game very well in defence and started lots of attacks from the half-back line. Doireann was strong on the ball and did well getting past her marker in possession. Anna was very steady at centre half-back reading the game well and cutting out dangerous attacks. Etaoin was very disciplined in marking the opposition and brave in tackling. Niamh settled well into defence and never let her opponent get past her. Rebekah ran her heart out in midfield and was very tenacious in tackling and getting past opponents. Caoimhe used her speed and agility very well in midfield and her turning in confined spaces was something any Senior footballer could learn from. Sinead made intelligent runs to get the ball and used it well to link up play in the half-forward line. Anna was very strong, particularly in the second match where she made fantastic runs into space and used the ball to set up the full-forward line.. Emma did some great work winning the ball and setting up scores in the forward line. Ciara Blaney played well in defence and in attack and capped off her day by winning a prize in the Free Taking competition.

Thanks to Moneyglass for organising the tournament, the beautiful weather and the tea. Thanks to the parents who came along to cheer the girls on.

Team: Kathryn Browne, Meadbh Wills, Aine Wills, Doireann Sheridan, Anna Foster, Etaoin Devlin, Niamh Fitzpatrick, Rebekah Mckegney, Caoimhe McLoughlin, Sinead Murray, Anna Doyle, Emma Carlin, Ciara Blaney.

U10 Girls Football Bredagh v Moneyglass
The Bredagh U10 Girls football team played their hearts out on Wednesday night against Moneyglass.
Moneyglass started well but the Bredagh defence of Bria, Etaoin and Doireann tackled strongly. When Moneyglass broke through the defence they couldn’t get past Kathryn who did a great job in her spell in goals. Bredagh started to gain more possession in midfield with great runs from Anna, Rebekah being her usual tenacious tackling self and Aoife battling really well as she spent her birthday in a Bredagh jersey! Moneyglass persisted and managed to get a few good scores. In the forward line Sinead, Aine and Amy battled well to get the ball against a tough Moneyglass defence who managed to keep Bredagh scoreless in the first half.
In the second half Bredagh competed well and started to find more space going forward. The pressure paid off as Bredagh scored a point from a free. Moneyglass responded with a good goal of their own.
U10 Team: Amy Magee, Anna Doyle, Bria Deighan, Doireann Sheridan, Etaoin Devlin, Kathryn Browne, Rebekah McKegney, Sinead Murray, Aoife Boyle, Aine Gormley
Final Score: Bredagh 0-1 Moneyglass 3-0 Team Picture

Bredagh under 10 Vs Bryansford
The Bredagh U-10 girls football team travelled to Bryansford last sunday for a friendly match against Bryansford.
Bredagh started the match slowly with Bryansford getting the first few scores. The Bredagh defence started to get to grips with some good Bryansford forwards with Niamh Fitzpatrick and Bria Deighan tenacious in defence. The strong kickouts from Eimear Mallon enabled Bredagh to start to get more possession, with Rebekah McKegney and Ciara Blaney winning a lot of ball in midfield and working it forward. Amy Magee in the forward line caused lots of problems for Bryansford, scoring some lovely points and setting up a goal chance which was punched to the net by Ciara Blaney. Sinead Murray used the ball well when it came into her possession, setting her team-mates up well. Aoife Mageean worked hard in the forward line and Aoife and Sinead were busy tackling the Bryansford defenders in their own half which enabled Bredagh to get some more scores. As the half wore on, Bryansford came back at Bredagh and scored a couple of goals after beating the Bredagh defence despite some good saves from Eimear Mallon.
Half-Time Score: Bryansford 3-1 v Bredagh 1-5
In the second half there were a couple of positional switches with Eimear Mallon moving to forward, Sinead Murray moving to defence and Amy Magee moving to goals. Bredagh started well with Rebekah and Ciara again very strong in midfield, giving good possession into the forwards. Eimear Mallon and Aoife Mageean battled well in the forwards but the Bryansford defence did well to survive this spell of Bredagh pressure without letting in too many scores. On a few occasions Bryansford broke through the Bredagh defence and scored a couple of good goals past Amy Magee and then Rebekah McKegney. In the final quarter Bredagh tired but the defence of Sinead Murray, Niamh Fitzpatrick and Bria Deighan put in a lot of tackles and kept giving their all right until the end.
Full-Time Score: Bryansford 6-2 v Bredagh 2-6
All in all, it was a very encouraging display with good teamwork, good tackling and good point-scoring. The most pleasing aspect of the performance was that the girls tried their best and gave 100% effort, which was what their coaches Cera McArdle and Suzy Irvine asked of them at the start of the match.
Thanks to our hosts Bryansford who provided drinks and treats for the U8s and U10s and the travelling supporters, and to the parents who helped out with transport on the day.
Training for U-10s continues throughout the summer at Cherryvale, Wednesdays 6-7 and Saturdays 11:30-1. All welcome!

U10 Girls - Football, Tightrope Walking, Horses and Cookies

The Bredagh U10 Girls Football had a ball on their Away Day on Saturday. The day kicked off at 9 o'clock where the girls gathered to get the bus to Lurgan. First on the agenda was a friendly match against the Clann Eireann girls. Two small-sided matches were played at the same time which meant all the Bredagh girls played all the time. The Bredagh girls put up great performances in both matches against the Clann Eireann girls. In Match1 the Bredagh girls put up a good performance against a very good Clann Eireann team. Clann Eireann had strong runners and Bredagh struggled to get to grips with their opponents. Amy Magee did very well in goals but at times the Bredagh players did not show for the kick-outs, making it difficult to get the ball down the Clann Eireann half. The Bredagh defence was under a lot of pressure but all the defenders worked really hard. Nuala McManus was very effective at the heart of defence, gathering and clearing a lot of ball that came her direction and Sinead Murray and Orlagh Blaney stuck to their task well. Ciara Blaney and Bronagh Murray worked tirelessly in midfield, and covered a lot of ground in defending and attacking as required. As the half went on Bredagh came into the match more. A good Bredagh attacking move saw the ball passed to Helen McGale who set up a chance of a point for Ciara Blaney. Ciara was unlucky to put it narrowly wide. In the lead-up to half-time Bredagh worked the ball forward several times with the unselfish Helen McGale showing for the ball and passing it to set up a few chances that went just wide. The Bredagh girls made a good improvement in the second half. Zoe Waterfield and Amy Magee moved to defence where they tackled and shadowed really well. Cliona Regan in the forwards also stepped up her work-rate. Helen McGale moved to goals and was very steady, finding her team-mates in space for the kick-outs. Bronagh Murray showed well for the kickouts and was able to start a very good attack which involved a number of Bredagh players. The ball was played back to Bronagh who burst through on goal and rifled the ball to the back of the net. Clann Eireann responded well with a couple of excellent scores. That was not the end of the Bredagh scoring and the Bredagh girls continued to push forward, being encouraged by getting their first goal. Orlagh Blaney was very courageous in winning a ball in attack and that possession enabled Bredagh to push forward and Bronagh Murray to score another cracking goal. In Match2 Clann Eireann put pressure on from the start but the Bredagh defence of Clodagh Smith , Anna Foster and Kathryn Browne stood steadfast with Hannah McKegney doing well in goals. Kathryn Browne and Rachel McVeigh battled hard in the half-back line to push forward ably assisted by Eimear Smith in midfield. Clann eireann pressed again with some excellent points before adding goals. Aoife McLaughlin, Emma Scullion and Rebecca McKegney worked hard to bring Bredagh into the match. The Second half saw Bredagh coming into the game to greater effect with Aoife and Emma pressurising from the front. Aine Wills coped tenaciously in goals whilst Hannah McKegney added great determination to the half-back line. Bredagh began to gain more possession through excellent defending with Anna Foster again coming to the fore and this lead to Bredagh's best move with Rachel McVeigh hitting a thunderous shot of the crossbar. Again the Bredagh battled to the end but Clann Eireann ran out deserved winners. Thanks to Clann Eireann for hosting the visit and for the drinks, which came in handy for the picnic later in the day. Then it was back to the bus and off to Tanaghmore Gardens for the afternoon. The hungry girls polished off their packed lunches and then set about an assortment of obstacles, tightropes, and climbing frames. A climbing competition soon developed on the Monkey Bars and it's likely that a few of the Bredagh girls will have longer arms on Monday than they did on Friday! This was followed by a visit to the Animal Farm where the girls saw horses, donkeys, pigs and chickens. Then it was back to the bus for the journey home which didn't have a quiet moment on the way home. Even the bus driver joined in the singing as the girls sang the whole way back to Cherryvale. Thanks to the coaches and to Isobel McManus for looking after the girls on the trip, and thanks to the girls for behaving so well throughout the day - they were a credit to the club. One final note - Izzy stole the cookie from the cookie jar....

U10 Girls first match!
The Bredagh U10 Girls Football Team played their first match on Tuesday night in Boucher Road against St.Pauls.
St.Pauls started strongly and scored a couple of early points despite good pressure from the full-back line of Clodagh Smith, Anna Foster and Aine Wills.

Some good play from the midfield of Eimear Smith and Aoidin McPeake enabled Bredagh to push forward and bring the half-forward line of Rebecca McKegney, Rachel McVeigh and Hannah McKegney into the match. Hannah McKegney kept on the move and used her four steps to well to play the ball out.

St.Pauls responded with a couple of goals when the Bredagh defence did not mark their players tightly enough and there was nothing that goalkeeper Kathryn Browne could do about the goals.

The half-back line of Bronagh Murray, Joanne McKay and Zoe Waterfield continued to battle and prevented St.Pauls from pushing forward.
Nuala McManus, Ciara Blaney and Helen McGale chased every ball that came their way in the full-forward line.

The second half showed a good improvement from the Bredagh girls.
Chloe Henderson, Orlagh Blaney and Sinead Murray came on and battled really well in defence and some of the older girls came more into the match with Ciara Blaney and Rebecca McKegney making some great challenges and
Clodagh Smith, Eimear Smith and Aoidin McPeake clearing the ball well.
Rachel McVeigh covered a lot of ground and game into the game more.
Kathryn Browne, who had played very well in goals in the first half, made a great contribution when she came outfield inthe second half.
The younger members of the team competed really well with Amy Magee, Alannah Conlon, Aoife Hemderson and Aoibhin Brentall battling well.
Anna Foster went into goals and picked up her good form in the first half. Anna and Joanne continued to catch and kick to great effect. Aine Wills continued to tackle and block in her usual tenacious way.

All in all a very good first day out for the Bredagh U10s against a much more experienced St.Pauls team.
The girls will learn lots from this match and can practice in training on things that did not go so well during the match.

Next up - Training Match at Cherryvale on Thursday at 5:30.
