Championship Reports

Bredagh 2-14 v Darragh Cross 1-6,    31 May 2003,    Cherryvale
Bredagh had an impressive eleven point win over Darragh Cross in the Down Reserve Championship on Saturday evening at Cherryvale .The home side were fired up for this encounter with each player playing for the Bredagh shirt.

All eighteen players turned in good performances and manager Colm Reavey will fear no-one when the draw is made for the next round. Dee Brennan was dominant at corner back while James Mc Kenna, Brendan O Connell and Kevin Muldoon were solid in the half-back line. Mal Smyth and Chris Mc Ananey did well at midfield and all six forwards were impressive, particularly Paddy Finnegan in his Canavan/Corkery role and Barry Shannon with 1-5.

Team and scorers ; Danny Tracey, Dee Brennan, Sean Mc Cann, Jude Mc Cann, Kevin Muldoon, Brendan O'Connell, James Mc Kenna, Mal Smyth and Chris Mc Ananey(0-1),Conall Donnelly, Johnny Cleary (0-4),John Mc Cullagh(0-1),Barry Shannon(1-5), Paddy Finnegan (1-2),Eamon Vize, Seamus Carlin(0-1), Gerard Mc Kenna, Conor Mc Gowan.

Kilcoo 4-12 Bredagh 0-5,    5th August,    Kilcoo
Bredagh crashed out of the Reserve Championship with a heavy defeat in Kilcoo. The Belfast lads fielded understrength with only one substitute and received no favours from the referee, especially in the second half. In a competitive opening half the teams were well matched, with Conor O'Keefe and Paddy Heaney shading the midfield exchanges , but Bredagh behind , 0-6 to 0-3 at the interval. Kilcoo made 5 sustitutions in the opening 10 minutes of the second half (it was the championship and it was Kilcoo !) and two dubious goals, when square balls were real possibilities, killed off the City lads. Bredagh continued to try hard and Michael Rogers did well in goals, Paddy Finnegan and Conor Mc Gowan were unlucky with two goal-bound efforts and Pete Carr and Shane Donnelly had two fine points.Stand-in Manager Paul O'Reilly was proud of the players who stood up and counted and the team has a real chance of silverware in the East Down Shield.Team and scorers ; Michael Rogers, Gerry Mc Kenna,Dee Brennan, James Mc Kenna (0-1), Jarlath Mc Sorley, Shane Donnelly(0-1), Kevin Muldoon, Conor O'Keefe and Paddy Heaney, Chris Mc Ananey, Pete Carr(0-1), John Mc Cullagh, Conor Mc Gowan(0-1), Paddy Finnegan (0-1),Barry Shannon, Seamus Carlin.
