Scoil an Droichead/Bredagh GAC

As part of our committment to the GAA we strive to promote our language and culture. Right on our own doorstep we have an excellent facility to cater for all our needs. At 'Scóil An Droichead' there is a programme of events to suit all age groups. The above educational services offers parents in South/East Belfast a unique opportunity to have their children educated through the medium of Irish. Why not drop in for a visit or log on to their website @www.androichead.com

As part of our increased focus on our Cultural Dimension we are pleased to announce
'DATES FOR YOUR DIARY'

8th/9th March 2008: 10.30am – 4.30pm - Intensive Irish Language Course @ Scóil an Droichead'. Click on www.androichead.com for further details. The Intensive Irish Language Course will be held at An Droichead, in Cooke Street, just off the Ormeau Road on 8th and 9th March from 10.30am to 4.30pm. There will be four different classes, catering for four different levels of proficiency in Irish, from total beginner to those who have a reasonable level of fluency. All of the classes will be taught by experienced Irish language teachers. The courses are available to both adults and teenagers. The normal fee of £25 for the two days (including lunch) is being reduced to £15 for young people aged 14 – 18. All Bredagh members are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.

15th March 2008 - 1pm Mass in Irish in Good Shepherd/Holy Rosary Church. Bredagh GAC is collaborating with An Droichead in the preparation for and organisation of a Mass in the Irish Language in Good Shepherd/Holy Rosary Church on the Ormeau Road on Saturday 15th March at 1pm. Irish language missalettes will be provided to enable people to follow the liturgy. Bredagh members will be participating in the readings and the singing at the Mass. All Bredagh members are encouraged to attend.
Finally our club needs your ideas, enthusiasm, expertise and energy to feed into its new increased focus on Irish cultural activities. Now that Bredagh has teams fielding in Hurling, Camogie and football (men’s and women’s), at all age-groups including adults, the committee are encouraging a special increased focus on the cultural dimension of the club, namely: Irish Language, music, singing, dancing and activities relating to the history of the GAA and the history of Ireland. It is also hoped that this increased focus may lead to the club entering more categories of events in Scór and Scór na nÓg. Under the leadership of Frank Costello, different strands of activity are being identified, developed, co-ordinated and built upon. An early emphasis has been given to promoting Irish language activities; already representatives have had a very positive and constructive meeting with the committee of An Droichead which has been a lead organisation in the promotion of the Irish language in South Belfast for many years. Two items from the meeting with An Droichead, as referred to above. Fáilte roimh chach.

SCÓR

In the Official Guide of the Gaelic Athletic Association Rule 4 states the following: "The Association shall actively support the Irish language, traditional Irish dancing, music, song and other aspects of Irish culture."

Bredagh GAC give an undertaking to promote these activities at all times

With the birth of Scór in 1969 the GAA, through its clubs, has become actively involved in promoting Irish culture in a meaningful and enjoyable manner. Language and culture are amongst the most important elements of Irish heritage. The GAA, through Scór nÓg and Scór Sinsear, has played a significant part in the revival of our culture and heritage in creating an understanding and interest in its importance.

Scór competitions commence in each county with clubs competing to represent their county in one of the many different Scór events. County winners go through to the Provincial Finals with the winners at that stage qualifying for the All-Ireland Finals.

Scór is divided into two sections. Scór na nÓg caters for the younger GAA members while Scór Sinsear caters for adults members.

The national finals of both Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsear are a wonderful occasion and winning a national title is a tremendous honour for any club.

Further details on Scór can be obtained by clicking on the link below: Rules and Regulations

Please make every effort to participate in these events. For further details contact any member of the committee or e-mail bredaghgac@lucidhelp.com
