Minor challenge game-report Bredagh 1-08 St Pauls 2-07 Bredagh travelled to Shaw's Road for this challenge match expecting a tough game - and it turned out that way. All in all the experience was a positive one and the boys staged a very good come back to almost snatch a victory from a rugged St Paul's outfit. The game began badly for Bredagh, already missing Owen Costello, Kevin McElroy (injured) and Rowen Smart (injured) from the starting line-up - soon John McKenna was added to the list after a blow to the back. St Pauls raced into a 1-05 to 0-02 lead at the end of the first period. Bredagh though, reshuffled the pack and began to play some flowing football inspired by Peter Graham, Cormac Hughes and the experienced half back line of Quinn, Colton and Wright. The lead was cut to 3 points in the 2nd "20". The 3rd "20" was also fruitful and when a Paddy Sheridan goal cut the deficit to one point with 3 minutes left we hoped for the best. St Pauls rallied and got the final score though. St Pauls were quality opposition, who play at the highest level. They were physically bigger - but Bredagh played the better football. This match was a learning experience. It shows us that we need more matches (shooting practice into proper posts would help)! It also shows some of us that we are not fit enough - we all know what we have to do! Keep up the good work - the run is on as usual this Wednesday, training on Sunday - we need everyone out!

Senior hurling challenge St Teresa's 6-10 Bredagh 2-05 Bredagh were well beaten by a young and very fit St Teresa's side at the Glen road on Sunday afternoon. The Teresa's men started at a blistering pace running at will through Bredagh's porous defence and effectively had the game rapped up at half-time with Bredagh having a McLoughney pointed free for their first half effort or the lack of it more like. Bredagh didn't start playing until the second half with the introduction of seventeen year old Michael Mullan at centre back galvinising them into action and demonstrating to his older colleagues how hurling should be played. His no nonsense long clearances from defence lifted his fellow players with McLoughney adding a further two points to raise early hopes of a comeback. Boyle's goal brought some cheer but the gap was too much to bridge. Midfielder McGinley fired over a fine point before Nixon pounced for his first ever goal for Bredagh. The biggest cheer of the day was when number 3 Charlie Dillon broke out of defence, soloed past five players and fired over the final point from all of 70 yds to put a brief shine in what was an all round poor display by Bredagh. Overall the first half display was about the worst Bredagh have ever performed, a similar performance away to Warrenpoint in the Betsy Gray Cup in a fortnight's time will mean an early exit from that competition. Michael Mullan was the only player to come out with any credit, wing half backs Donnelly and McKervey were given a torrid time by their opposite numbers in the first half but managed to steady the ship in the second. St Teresa's were very strong in the middle third with their midfield dominating most of the game although McGinley battled hard in this department and was rewarded by a well taken point. Upfront substitutes Muldoon, Nixon and McCool looked lively when entering the fray in the latter stages but by then the damage had been done. Panel and Scorers: Lorenzo McMullan, Michael Whyte, Charlie Dillon 0-1, Paddy McGrenaghan, Micky McKervey, Liam McCollum, Eoghan Donnelly, Mark McGinley 0-1, Colin O'Neill, Paul Moriarty, Paul Johnson, Cormac Hughes, Seamus McLoughney 0-32f, Paul Boyle 1-0, Paul Doole, Michael Mullan, Kevin Muldoon, Nicholas Nolan, Vincent McCool, Ciaran Nixon 1-0.

Senior hurling challenge - report Niamh Columcille 3-04 Bredagh 2-07
Bredagh senior hurlers fought back from behind to earn a well-deserved draw in fog-bound Clonoe on Sunday afternoon with last year's minor captain,Paul Doole, sneaking a late goal to add to his earlier hat-trick of points. Bredagh were the more accurate side in the first-half with Doole knocking over two early points before seeing these cancelled by a Columcille goal at the other end, however McLoughney with a brace of points (1 free)and a long range goal put Bredagh four in front, O'Neill increased this to five before a late goal by the Tyrone men cut the deficit to two at half-time.The third quarter was all Columcille but some great defending from Dillon and Connolly coupled with a magnificient point blank save from McMullan, who replaced Sidebottom at half-time, meant that Bredagh were still in touch after conceding 1-4. A goal was needed as the game went into the final minutes and Doole duly obliged when Power broke the ball down to him,he made no mistake from close range to draw the game. On the day, the heavy fog ruined this game as a spectacle limiting visibility to 50 yds, however, newcomers Mark McGinley and Jack Anderson staked a claim for a position in the starting line-up and will certainly pose a challenge to the ten first team regulars who were missing. Connolly showed his fitness hasn't dropped as he excelled in the left halfback position with Doole being the pick of the forwards, well supported by McLoughney. O'Neill and McGinley kept apace with their opposing midfield runners while McCollum was his usual assured self at centre halfback. Overall it was good to get a run out in 2007 but the weather spoiled the game. Hopefully Bredagh's trip up to St Theresa'a next Sunday will see better weather and better hurling.
Panel and scorers: Mark Sidebottom, Paddy McGrenaghan, Charlie Dillon, Mark Heron, Brian Connolly, Liam McCollum, Michael McKervey, Mark McGinley, Colin O'Neill 0-1, Paul Johnstone, Jack Anderson, Nicholas Nolan, Paul Doole 1-3,Ultan Power, Seamus McLoughney 1-3, Lorenzo McMullan, Rory Galway
