Bredagh news in December 2006

Indoor hurling xmas break
Indoor hurling is on a Xmas break returning Sat 6th Jan. The following age groups and times apply: P1, 2, & 3 = 1-2pm, P4, 5, & 6 = 2-3pm, P7, 8, & 9 = 3-4pm.

Football management confirmed
The committee of Bredagh GAC would like to confirm that Paddy Heaney will be the senior football team manager next year.

Paddy and Shane Donnelly were joint-managers last year and in their first season they led the seniors to the Division Four title and the Junior Championship.

Shane, however, has been unable to continue for a further season due to family commitments. The Bredagh committee would like to thank Shane for his sterling efforts and we hope his exile from management is only a temporary one.

Meanwhile, we wish Paddy the best of luck in 2007 when the seniors will be competing in Division Three and the Intermediate Championship.

Paddy’s backroom team and the senior training schedule for the New Year will be announced in due course.

Level 1 Coaching course
A Level One Football Course will be taking place over two weekends the 12th and 13th of January 2007 and the 26th and 27th of January 2007 in St Malachys High School Castlewellan. The Course Tutors will be Gary Mallon and Paul Rouse assisted by our own John Morgan. This course is perhaps best suited to persons involved in the coaching of Club Minor, Reserve and Senior teams.
The fee for the course will be £80.00 per person. With the festive season nearly upon us we would appreciate if anyone interested could let us know as soon as possible. Contact Eamon Mulvenna for further details

Calling referee's, young and old
Training course for new refereeing recruits will begin on Monday 5th February 2007 commencing at 7.30 pm sharp in the Donard Hotel, Newcastle. The course continueS on Saturday 7th February at 10.00 am and will finish on Monday 12th February. In a new imitative being introduced next season clubs are invited to submit the names of youth members over the age of 16 years who would be interested in refereeing U10, U11 blitz tournaments or Go games next season. This will be an ideal setting for potential young club members to sample refereeing in a less competitive setting. A short training course will be offered to those young referees in an informal setting separate from the full referees training course. Depending on the numbers involved these courses can be offered at either a central venue, a number of regional venues or within your own club.Contact Eamon Mulvenna on 07703 210354 for further details.

Passing of a friend
Bredagh GAC are saddenned to learn of the sudden death of Brendan 'Castle' Harrigan, former team manager, player and friend of our club. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

Minor football 2007
Minor training will resume in Cherryvale on Sunday January 7th at 10:00am. It appears that the League will start in early February. We therefore need a full attendance at all training sessions - especially the first one.
It is up to individual players to get to and maintain a good level of fitness before training starts - all players should be playing for their school teams where possible. It may be possible to get together during the Christmas break - discuss this among yourselves and come back to Jim or Frank (07779038152).
