Doing Bredagh Proud
Congratulations go to camogs Peita McAllister, Alice Donaldson, Sarah Deasley and Sarah Montgomery for helping Belfast Schools defeat Dublin Schools at Casement Park on Tuesday 8th June. The girls are from St Michaels PS and Holy Rosary PS, and they were the on a Belfast team to win in a day of challenges with Dublin. It was a highly exciting match with Belfast winning by just one point, 1-2 to 1-1, with the sheer skill and determination displayed by the girls ensuring that the Dubs were kept at bay. Cathy Short played on the girls gaelic football team.

There have been plenty of other Bredagh boys and girls earning recognition on county and schools representative teams in recent weeks. On Sunday June 6, Bredagh U-12 hurler Emmett Dougan played at right-half-forward for the Co Down Cumann na mBunscoil hurling team at half-time in the Ulster Senior Final at Casement Park between Down and Antrim.

Also, Bredagh U-16 hurler Paul Doole has made history by becoming the first player from our club to be named on a Down county hurling panel. After attending recent trials over two Saturdays in Portaferry, 'Doolers' was called into the panel for upcoming matches against Dublin and Meath ahead of the start of the Ulster League. While there was delight for Paul there was disappointment for Bredagh team-mates Chris McConville and Paddy Byrne who both narrowly missed out. Still, this is a tremendous honour for Paul and for everyone associated with the revival of hurling in South Belfast.

In football, Ciaran Fitzpatrick and Tim Durkan played on the Co Down Cumann na mBunscoil team on Sunday May 30th at Breffni Park at half-time in the Ulster SFC replay between Cavan and Down. Ciaran (Holy Rosary) and Tim (St Michaels) were the first representatives from their respective schools to play on this county team.

Ciaran played left-half-back and Tim at right-corner-back.

Stephen Gray made the U-16 Co Down Development Squad and has been involved there for several weeks, and both Oisin Quinn and Owen Costello have been selected for the Down Under-15 Development.

In girls football, Polly Moane and Anna McAlinney have been on the Down U-14 panel for the past two months.
