Girls Improving Fast

The U-14s beat Ardglass at their pitch by 1-4 to 1-2 - a terrific win for the girls and well-deserved after the hard work put in by their coaches Brendan O'Connell, Mairead Guinness, Maura McArdle and Cera McArdle in recent weeks.

The team put up a gutsy performance at home to Iveagh they drew with Bright, 2-3 to 2-3. The team is really improving and is well-supported. Claire Byrne scored a cracking goal in the Bright game and Kathryn Quinn got the goal at Ardglass.

More players are needed - training on Saturdays at 11.00

First youth hurling match
Under the management of Danny Hughes, Bredagh's first youth hurling match for many years took place last night in Ballycran. A mixture of under 12s and under 14s from Ballycran played host to their counterparts from Bredagh in what turned out to be an exciting match.

Bredagh's first youth hurling team

The Bredagh boys seemed to have lost none of the enthusiasm that they showed at the Hurling / Camogie academy as 20 hurlers between 11 and 14 years of age made up the Bredagh team.

Bredagh started brightly and in the first 10 minutes Ballycran never managed to get the ball out of their own half. This owed much to the centrefield diamond of Eoin Costello, Paul Doole, John McKenna and Richard Carey. Unfortunately Bredagh didn't manage to turn possession into scores and when Ballycran came into the game in the second quarter they punished Bredagh with two well taken points. However, Bredagh managed to keep the margin to two points with excellent defenting from young Conall Hughes at corner back. Goalkeeper Jonathan "Pup" Arthurs kept Bredagh in it with a couple of fine saves in a goal mouth scramble.

The second half seen Bredagh introduce a few subs but the lads were rocked by an early goal. Another goal and a point followed but a few great saves by replacement keeper Chris Kelly prevented an onslaught. The last fifteen minutes were marked by better stuff from Bredagh. Good ball into the forward line was putting the home team under pressure and the Belfast lads were finally rewarded with a long range goal from Richard Carey. Another couple of goals could have be stolen, but the craft of Ballycran showed through in then end as they fired home another goal to win the game.

Final Score
Ballycran 3-3 Bredagh 1-0

Team
Jonathan Arthurs, Conall Hughes, Eugene Toner, Pearse Leitch, Rory Conway, Richard Carey, Donal Hughes, Paul Doole, Eoin Costello, Emmett Costello, John McKenna, Cormac Hughes, Oisin Quinn, Paddy Woods, Rory Johnson - Subs Aidan O'Neill, Niall Colton, Chris Kelly, Sean O'Connor, Ben McCaughey

The Bredagh lads can be proud of what they have learned in a few short months. With plenty of training they could well end this season with a couple of wins. Training continues Tuesday nights at Cherryvale at 7:30 sharp.

Ladies draw
Breadgh Ladies lost their 100% record in the league with a draw at Bryansford.
