Bredagh 3-10 Bright 2-2 , Cherryvale 2nd Feb The perfect start for the Bredagh Minors, winning by eleven points at home. No wonder the lads are smiling in the team picture...

2003 Bredagh Minors
Kilclief 2-5 Bredagh 3-2, Kilclief Feb 9 Star player Paul Alexander made a surprise and welcome return from injury to save Bredagh with a late goal in this game at Strangford. Two weeks back Paul thought he had broken a bone in his foot and would be out of action for 8 weeks, but it turned out to be badly bruised and he played a vital role in this game. Bredagh missed a lot of chances before the goal and came away with a point, which was an improvement on last year's two defeats to the same club. Bredagh's outstanding player on the day was Kieran Murray, who impressed the home supporters with a marvellous performance.
Bredagh 5-6 St Johns 1-9, Cherryvale Feb 16

Gerry Conlon has a word at half-time with the Bredagh Minors.
An understrength Minor team managed to maintain Bredagh's unbeaten start to the season with an emphatic victory over St Johns at Cherryvale on Sunday afternoon. Several squad players delighted manager Sean Rafferty by taking their opportunity to shine. 'We have a big squad and some lads have had to watch from the sidelines in the last two weeks, but we really needed them here and they were excellent. Lads like Paul Milligan, Michael Lee, Ryan Smith, Ronan McCann and Paul McGlade made important contributions'. Rory McCaughey is a more regular player but his improved performance was another key factor in the win, especially when the scores were level midway through the second-half. Rory managed to score a point from half-back, as did Brian Willigan, while the all-important goals came from Paul Alexander, Michael Lee and Paul McGlade.
Bredagh 0-8 Liatroim 1-7, Cherryvale Mar 23 The Under-18s suffered their first Section B reverse on Sunday, March 23rd, losing to Liatroim by 1-8 to 0-7. However, Bredagh hold onto second place and can make up ground over the next week, which is very busy with the team scheduled to play four games - starting at Bright on Sunday, then at Ardglass on Tuesday, at Teconnaught on Thursday and home to Kilclief on Sunday the 8th. Incidentally, two title rivals meet this Sunday - Kilclief v Darragh Cross, while Liatroim will play Darragh Cross next Tuesday night. The Minors have also drawn Newry Mitchels in the Championship, at home on Tuesday, 20th of May.
Ardglass 3-8 Bredagh 3-5, Ardglass April 1 The city boys walked off very disappointed after throwing away a seven-point lead in the second-half and so losing two important points in the race for the title. 21 players made the trip but arrived late because of a logjam on the Saintfield Road. Bredagh conceded three quick points but got into gear and appeared to have the game won until two late goals by the home side. That's two defeats but they have only been by a few points and all is not lost if the Minors can put together a winning run against the top teams.

Teconnaught 2-11 Bredagh 1-6, Teconnaught April 3 A bad week just got worse with a late collapse putting a bad look on the scoreline. There was only a point or two in it until Teconnaught pulled away with a few more points and then a goal in injury-time. CJ Carson, Aaron Quinn and Kieran Murray were best for Bredagh in defence.

St John's 0-5 Bredagh 1-10 , St John's 15th April 6.45pm Managers Jim Alexander and Pat Matthews masterminded a fine victory that stops the rot for the Minors in Section B. A few away defeats had dented morale, but all fifteen players who travelled performed very well. In fact, Pat Matthews described it as the 'best performance I have ever seen by this group of players'.
Eight different players scored and the defence was watertight, conceding only five points. Chris Donnelly slotted in the full-back line, with Paul McGlade in the middle and Conor Sharvin on the left. The half-backs were also excellent, with Sean Coleman and Conal O'Neill even getting on the scoresheet.
Thanks also to Martin Hannity and Pat Matthews' sister for helping with transport.
TEAM & SCORERS: Eddie Burns, Chris Donnelly, Paul McGlade, Conor Sharvin, Brian Willigan, Sean Coleman 0-1, Conal O'Neill 0-1, Conor Carson 0-2, Paul Alexander 0-2, Ciaran Conlon 0-1, Rory McCaughey 0-1, Ronan McCann 1-1, Michael Lee, Shane Matthews 0-1, Ryan Smith.
Bredagh v Ardglass - OFF, Cherryvale 22nd April Ardglass failed to show, so Bredagh are awarded the points.
Darragh Cross 3-5 Bredagh 3-6, Darragh Cross 29th April This was a terrific win for the lads in a high-scoring game and means we did the double over Darragh Cross. SCORERS: Shane Matthews 2-1, Rory McCaughey 1-1, James Johnston 0-2, Paul Alexander 0-1, Conor Rafferty 0-1.
Bredagh 2-7 Teconnaught 1-8, Cherryvale 6th May An exceptional display of goalkeeping by Eddie Burns ensured a narrow win for Bredagh in the rain at Cherryvale. He made several great saves, particularly in the second-half with time running out. Eddie plucked the ball out of the top corner on a couple of occasions to prevent what looked like certain goals. Goals from James Johnston and Ronan McCann gave Bredagh a two-point win. It's probably too late to make a difference to League chances, but the Championship is just round the corner and this team certainly has the potential to go on a run. Teconnaught were in with a real chance in the League and badly needed two points in this game. The defeat leaves them four points behind Liatroim, who Bredagh play next.
SCORERS: James Johnston 1-1, Ronan McCann 1-1, Paul Alexander 0-2, Shane Matthews 0-1, Ciaran Conlon 0-1, Michael Lee 0-1.
Liatroim 0-8 Bredagh 1-7, Liatroim 13th May Excellent win, despite a very poor referee, but too little, too late. We just miss out on medals, finishing the League in third place, same as last year.
Bredagh P Newry Mitchels P, Cherryvale 20th May They failed to show - Bredagh qualify
Feis Sevens, Liatroim April 27th For the first time in many years, Bredagh is to play in the Feis Sevens, starting with a game against Ardglass at 1.00pm.
Bright 3-6 Bredagh 3-6, Bright May 4th A draw wasn't bad in the light of the cry-offs from the away side, but we really should have been picking up two points here to keep up a good run in the closing stages of the League.
Bredagh 5-6 Darragh Cross 0-10, Cherryvale March 2nd The best performance of the season so far brought down the cocky table toppers from Darragh Cross. In the lead up to this crunch game, the visitors posted a message on the Bredagh website stating they had won four out of our and were 'looking forward to the game!' But on the day, Bredagh were the superior team and deserved to win by eleven points. Goalkeeper Eddie Burns made a magnificent penalty save, while at the other end Paul Alexander grabbed two goals just before the break and Shane Matthews sold an outrageous dummy before slotting home the clinching score in the second-half. The Belfast side remains unbeaten from four games and has the potential to win the League.
BREDAGH TEAM & SCORERS: Eddie Burns, Aaron Quinn, Conor Sharvin, Brian Willigan, Conor Carson, Rory McCaughey, Henry Deazley, Kieran McAree, Conor Rafferty, Paul Alexander 2-0, Ciaran Conlon, Shane Matthews 2-4, Michael Lee 1-0. Subs: Tom Kelly, Paul McGlade 0-1, Conor McDaid, Ryan Smith.
