WELCOME TO THE UNDER-8s HISTORIC FIRST YEAR!

MARCH - The St Brides experience...

Manager Kieran Kelly gets the sack (of footballs) before the game at St Brides on Sunday, March 10th. Paedar Doyle and Damien O'Kane help out while the boys to line-up in their mixture of Down and Bredagh jerseys.

The boys stand to attention before the pre-match parade.

This picture is surely proof that the St Brides players employed supernatural Harry Potter-style powers to make the ball fly through the air.

21 boys made the trek over to Shane Park (formerly the Instonians rugby home) for their first ever match against St Brides on March 10th.

REPORT - They all got a game and according to co-manager Kieran Kelly they deserved ‘ten out of ten for effort’ in the cold conditions. Bredagh lost, but the St Brides manager has promised to bring a different team to Cherryvale on Sunday week for the return game. Their team has been playing together for 2/3 years.

APRIL/MAY - That winning feeling.... There were jubilant scenes after the boys beat St Brides at home on Sunday March 24th for their first win - 4-1 to 3-0. Declan Magee and Jack Hollywood were the heroes, with Declan scoring the first ever U-8 goal and Jack following up with the first U-8 point. Niall Devlin also scored a goal.

JUNE - The return match against Eire Og....

The Bredagh squad played two games at Eire Og.

Niall Fitzpatrick closes in and Diarmaid Kielty keeps his eye on the ball.

NOTE - There was a lively debate around the selection of the Under-8 Player of the Month for May, as there are so many good footballers in the group and they are all improving so fast. Niall Irwin got the vote in the end because he ‘showed good skills and enthusiasm in the St Endas game. Also, he is getting better week by week’. Runner-up was Conor McEvoy because ‘he tries hard and is keen and co-operative during training’.
