Bredagh v Bright

The first ever Bredagh Girls U-14 team played their first match on Sunday 9th June against Bright in Cherryvale, in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Right from the throw-in the Bredagh debutantes competed fiercely against a Bright team that has been playing a number of years.
The full-back line of Meabh Holywood, Kate Holywood and Emma Sharkey worked hard to stop the Bright attacks and when the Bright managed to get past the Bredagh defence, Anna McAlliney made some brilliant saves to deny Bright.
After a period of pressure Bright managed to get some scores on the board with a goal and a point.
Bredagh fought back with a great goal from skillful midfielder Emma Mulhorn following some good work from the half-forward line of Polly Moane, Katie Campbell and Ryan Maxwell.
Another good passage of play with some good hand-passing between the full-forward line of Orla Downey, Cathy Short and Emer Murtagh, resulted in a 21 yard free for Bredagh that was just wide.
Lisa Kelly and Emma Mulhorn at midfield worked tirelessly closing down the runners from the Bright midfield and were helped out when Katie Campbell moved to midfield where her great catching and kicking helped relieve the pressure on the Bredagh defence before half-time.

Half Time Score: Bredagh 1-0 Bright 3-1

After half-time the Bredagh girls were even more determined in defence with energetic performances from the half-back line of Orla Day, Hannah Murray, Jamie Willington and Mary Flanigan (on for Orla Day following a hand injury) . The play flowed from end-to-end with some good Bredagh efforts going close.
As Bredagh tired, Bright showed their greater experience with some good scores mid-way through the second-half, despite more great saves from Anna McAlliney.

Final Score: Bredagh 1-0 Bright 6-6

The Bredagh team was clapped off the pitch after their first match following their brilliant performance. A great day was had by all and many more to come.

Bredagh v Bryansford

In only their second match, the Bredagh Girls U-13 team put up a great performance aginst Bryansford in Cherryvale on Sunday 23rd June.
The game was very even for the first 10 minutes with Bredagh competing well against a good Bryansford team, before Bryansford scored a few good long-range points.

The Bredagh defence remained solid with some great tackling and blocking from the full-back line of Meabh Hollywood, Kate Hollywood, Emma Sharkey, and Anna McElhinney in goals who again pulled off some good saves.
Bredagh put together some good passing moves with Hannah Murray and Polly Moane working hard in midfield but the Bryansford defence held firm against the Bredagh full-forward line of Nicky Pauley and Sarah Nugent.
Bryansford then scored a goal to give them a comfortable cushion in the lead-up to half-time.

Half Time Score: Bredagh 0-0 Bryansford 1-9

In the second half the Bredagh half-back line battled hard with excellent performances from Orla Day, Sinead Norwood and Jamie Willington.
The half-forward line retained posession more effectively with good battling from Kathryn Quinn, Ryan Maxwell and Aisling Mulholland and some good play from the full-forward line of Cathy Short, Emer Murtagh and Orla Downey.
At the other end, Bryansford continued to score long-range points before finishing Bredagh off with another goal.

Final Score: Bredagh 1-0 Bryansford 3-15

The girls went home tired but happy after their great display.

Ardglass v Bredagh

The Bredagh U-14 girls team scored a brilliant win in a tremendous performance at Ardglass on Sunday 25th August.

The ever-improving Bredagh Girls piled on the pressure from the start on a huge Ardglass pitch, rumoured to be bigger than the new Croke Park.

The Bredagh defence were very solid throughout the match with the full-back line of Emma Sharkey, Amy Cunningham and Orla Day restricting Ardglass to long-range efforts.

With brilliant work at midfield from the hard-working Katie Campbell and the skillful Emma Mulhorn, Bredagh pressed forward and the nippy Bredagh full-forward line of Orla Downey, Sarah Nugent and Enya McVeigh worked hard to make a breakthrough. The half-forward line of Emer Murtagh, Kathryn Quinn and Lisa Kelly made good runs to keep the pressure on the Ardglass defence but scores were hard to come by before Kathryn Quinn broke the deadlock with a well-taken point.

Bredagh had a few narrow wides from Katie Campbell and Emma Mulhorn but kept plugging away.

Half-way through the first half the classy Ardglass midfielders started to come into the game more and their running caused problems for the Bredagh defence. They never managed to get past the half-back line, where Hannah Murray, Jamie Willington and Sinead Norwood never allowed them much room and limited them to 2 good points from midfield.

As half-time approached Bredagh survived a few scares with good goalkeeping from Anna McAlliney keeping the defence steady as a rock all day.

Before half-time Emma Mulhorn added a point to leave the scores level at the break.

Half Time Score: Ardglass 0-2 - Bredagh 0-2

In the second half Amy Cunningham moved to midfield and her energetic running and long kick-passing caused more problems for Ardglass.

The pressure finally told when a ball into the Ardglass defence was won by Kathryn Quinn and finished to the net for a Bredagh goal.

Goalscorer Kathryn Quinn

Bredagh came forward in waves with Emma Mulhorn and Katie Campbell coming into their own and more good play from the forward line earned Bredagh a free, converted by Emma Mulhorn.

Ardglass responded with some good running from midfield but brilliant tenacity from Sinead Norwood stopped them in their tracks time and again with Hannah Murrah and Orla Day first to every ball.

Bredagh ensured a nervous last five minutes when Ardglass scored a good goal following a free kick but Bredagh worked the ball up the pitch and the pressure free-kick was converted by Emma Mulhorn to seal the Bredagh victory

A great result for all the Bredagh girls!

Final Score: Ardglass 1-2 - Bredagh 1-4

Many thanks to all the parents who gave their time on the bank holiday weekend to help out with transport to Ardglass and supported the girls so well.
