REPORTS
Feb 2 - Bredagh 3-10 Bright 2-2
The Minors got off to a winning start in terrible conditions and on the rugby pitch at Cherryvale. On the plus side, Bredagh had a superb turn-out of 23 players, but unfortunately some of them were unable to get a game as the opposition chose to play 13-a-side. Our goals were scored by new boy Tom Kelly, Sean Coleman and impressive substitute Michael Lee. Eddie Burns gave his usual steady performance, Aaron Quinn and Henry Deazley were in commanding form in the middle of the Bredagh defence, Rory McCaughey did well in his new position in the half-back line, while Sean Coleman and Kieran McAree lorded it at midfield. The best forward on show was Ciaran Conlon.
TEAM: Eddie Burns, Aaron Quinn, Brian Willigan, Conor Carson, Henry Deazley, Rory McCaughey, Sean Coleman, Kieran McAree, Ciaran Conlon, James Johnston, Conor Rafferty, Shane Matthews, Tom Kelly. Subs used: Michael Lee, Paul Milligan, Kevin Harte, Conor Sharvin & Conor McDaid. Unused: Paul McGlade, Ryan Smith, Conor McCaughey, Ronan McCann & Chris Donnelly.

Feb 9 - Kilclief 2-5 Bredagh 3-2
Paul Alexander made a surprise and welcome return from injury to save Bredagh with a late goal in this game at Strangford. Two weeks back Paul thought he had broken a bone in his foot and would be out of action for 8 weeks, but it turned out to be badly bruised and he played a vital role in this game. Bredagh missed a lot of chances before the goal and came away with a point, which was an improvement on last year's two defeats to the same club. Bredagh's outstanding player on the day was Kieran Murray, who impressed the home supporters with a marvellous performance.

Feb 16 - Bredagh 5-6 St Johns 1-9
An understrength Minor team managed to maintain Bredagh's unbeaten start to the season with an emphatic victory over St Johns at Cherryvale. Several squad players delighted manager Sean Rafferty by taking their opportunity to shine. 'We have a big squad and some lads have had to watch from the sidelines in the last two weeks, but we really needed them here and they were excellent. Lads like Paul Milligan, Michael Lee, Ryan Smith, Ronan McCann and Paul McGlade made important contributions'. Rory McCaughey is a more regular player but his improved performance was another key factor in the win, especially when the scores were level midway through the second-half. Rory managed to score a point from half-back, as did Brian Willigan, while the all-important goals came from Paul Alexander, Michael Lee and Paul McGlade. LATEST: Unlucky Play-off League title defeat

LEAGUE GAME ABANDONED
The first match away to Kilclief had to be abandoned after 20 minutes because of a injury to a Kilclief player. The home side were winning at the time, despite points by Kieran Conlon & Kevin Harte, and with Bredagh playing very well. The U-16 management sent their best wishes to the injured player.

LEAGUE RE-STARTED WITH WIN
Bredagh 6-7 Darragh Cross 1-6
The League was re-started when a team withdrew from the competition. The first game was a superb Bredagh display in terrible conditions. Kieran McArea in particular made light of the wind and rain by scoring a 'wonder goal', where he ran for 80 yards before lashing the ball to the net. Shane Matthews added two more, and with Michael Lee and Paul Alexander also on target, Bredagh strolled to victory. Goalkeeper Eddie Burns made three outstanding saves.

TWO OUT OF TWO
Bredagh 5-7 Kilclief 2-7
Bredagh’s only unbeaten team made it two out of two in the League with this hard-earned victory. Kilclief had us on the ropes with two early goals and they led by 2-4 to 0-3 after ten minutes. The boys clawed their way back with two great goals from Ciaran Conlon and Man of the Match James Johnston (he ended with 1-3). At half-time, it was 2-4 each. Midway through the second-half left-half-back Paul Alexander scored another great goal and it was closely followed by a goal from Shane Matthews. Best in defence were full-backs Ian Galway and Brian Willigan.
TEAM: (13-a-side): Eddie Burns, Ian Galway, Brian Willigan, Conor Sharvin, Henry Deazley, Paul Alexander, Kieran McArea, Conor Carson, Ciaran Conlon, Rory McCaughey, Conor Rafferty, Shane Matthews & James Johnston. Subs Conal O'Neill for Conor Rafferty, Paul McGlade for Shane Matthews, Gerard McGlade for James Johnston.

THREE OUT OF THREE
Teconnaught 2-4 Bredagh 3-8
The Minors stay top of the table but it wasn't easy in the driving rain and in the face of 'dirty tactics' employed by the home team. The Bredagh lads held their discipline admirably and beat Teconnaught with superior football skills. Paul Alexander scored 1-3 and Ciaran Conlon had his best game of the season with 0-2 and excellent general play against bigger and older opponents. Ronan McCann and Shane Matthews got the other goals.
TEAM & SCORERS (15-a-side): Conor McDaid, Paul McGlade, Brian Willigan, Ian Galwey, Tommy Turner, Henry Deazley, Conor Sharvin, Conor Carson 0-1, Kieran McArea, Ciaran Conlon 0-2, Rory McCaughey 0-2, Paul Alexander 1-3, Ronan McCann 1-0, Shane Matthews 1-0, Conor Rafferty. Subs: Michael Lee, Declan Noble, Paul Milligan, Conor McCaughey.

FOUR OUT OF FOUR!
Bredagh 2-15 Killyleagh 1-4
A superb win against a strong physicial Killyleagh side. This was a great performance. Shane Matthews was on song and gave a lively performance. He was always able to find space. His first goal was delightful as he darted past a couple of defenders to lash the ball to the net. His second he drove home very impressively when sent clear by Kieran McArea, who bypassed a number of defenders as he came through from midfield. Sean Coleman was always outstanding and he scored three points. At midfield, Kieran McArea's strong running kept the Killyleagh's defence on their toes. In defence Ian Galway superb handling and his ability not to panic, when he constantly brought the ball clear was a joy to watch.
TEAM & SCORERS: Eddie Burns, Conor Sharvin, Brian Willigan, Ian Galway, Conal O'Neill, Henry Deazley, Paul Alexander 0-2, Conor Carson 0-2, Kieran McArea, Ciaran Conlon 0-1, Rory McCaughey 0-1, Sean Coleman 0-3, Michael Lee, Shane Matthews 2-4, Conor Rafferty. Subs: Conor McDaid 0-1 for Michael Lee, Declan Noble For Conor Rafferty, Ryan Smith for Shane Matthews. Sub not used: Paul Milligan.

WINNING RUN COMES TO AN END AT DARRAGH CROSS
Darragh Cross 3-9 Bredagh 3-4
July is never a good month for Bredagh with players unavailable for one reason or another, and this proved to be the case once more. The three-week break didn't help either, against a fast and impressive home team, though we had our chances. Shane Matthews scored a super goal in the first-half and got another in the second-half, while Sean Coleman also found the net. Eddie Burns made some terrific point-blank saves to keep his team in the match.

'BRIGHT' FINISH TO WASTED EVENING
20 players, parents and managers made the long journey to Bright only to find that the game had been called off. This was infuriating but at least Bredagh were awarded the points.

NO RELIEF AT KILCLIEF - SECOND DEFEAT
Kilclief 3-5 Bredagh 2-3
Bredagh could easily have won this away match but they threw away numerous chances and had some bad luck. They led by a point entering the last quarter, thanks to a super goal by James Johnston, but it was Bredagh's only score of the entire second period, and Kilclief hit back with two goals to take the points. In truth, Bredagh didn't deserve to win. The Johnston goal was typical of the performance - good individual talent but it only came to the surface on rare occasions. For the most part, the League leaders did not play as a team. The centre of the defence, from Eddie Burns to Kieran Murray and Sean Coleman, kept Kilclief at bay, and others worked hard (Brian Willigan, Ciaran Conlon, the midfielders), but others were strangely out of sorts and some even showed an alarming lack of interest. The turning point of the game was a Kilclief penalty, awarded for a foot block. Bredagh protested and Eddie was booked, but really the lead-up to the penalty award was where the problem was - a Kilclief player was allowed to field a high clearance unchallenged, despite two Bredagh players being beside him. Too many players were quick to complain about their team-mates, when their own performance was below-par. Some hard work and good coaching would help turn things round at this vital point in the season, if all the players showed the commitment to turning up and listening.
TEAM & SCORERS: Eddie Burns, Michael Lee, Kieran Murray, Conor McDaid, Brian Willigan, Sean Coleman, Conor Sharvin, Conor Carson 0-1, Kieran 'Fred' McAree, Ciaran Conlon, James Johnston 1-1, Rory McCaughey (c) 0-1, Ronan McCann 1-0, Paul Alexander, Shane Matthews. Subs: Conor McCaughey, Conal O'Neill, Paul Milligan, Ryan Smith.
