REPORT:
It's hard to explain to anyone who has not experienced this superb festival of football but just talk to any of the 22 players or four Bredagh coaches who attended the weekend in Tyrone to find out how enjoyable it was. The football was important but so too was the social side. All of the players stayed in the houses of players from our host club Newtownstewart and made friends they will remember for a long time. The craic was something else, especially when the two sets of players had to travel together on coaches to the various venues. For example, 'You don't have a cinema, you don't have a cinema, nah nah, nah, nah!' was the chant from the Bredagh lads that definitely won the singing contest! But back to the football. On the Friday, a draw as the perfect result between Newtownstewart and Bredagh. The game was played in difficult blustery conditions but Bredagh came away with a creditable draw. They had the wind behind them in the opening 15-minute half and led by 0-2 to 0-1 at the break with two frees from Cormac Hughes. Conal Devlin had a hand in both scores. Newtownstewart were expected to steamroll the second-half with the advantage of the breeze, but that was to discount the trademark tenacity of this small and tigerish Bredagh side.

They surprised their Tyrone opponents by denying them space and challenging for every ball. Although Newtown edged into the lead, Bredagh broke away and Marcus Young was unlucky to see a low shot curl just wide of the post. All seemed lost, but then the Hughes brothers did the trick. Donal set up Cormac for a terrific point to level the scores and Bredagh saved their weekend with a draw.

SATURDAY:
Niall Wright
(pictured above) linked up with the squad on Friday evening and made an immediate impact with the opening point against Drumquin. Donal Hughes and Paddy Hannity made it 3-0 at the break, and goals from supersub Matthew 'Cabbage' Mullan and Cormac Hughes (2) saw us safely home. Declan O'Hara added a point for good measure. Then Bredagh had a real fright in the game with Lancashire - a big, athletic bunch of lads from North West England. They scored an early goal and although Marcus Young replied with a goal, they led at the break.

The second-half was a tense affair with Donal Hughes goal (the celebrations are pictured here coach Maurice Rooney in the foreground) squeezing Bredagh home and forcing a play-off with Newtownstewart. This game had to be played early, which was tough on Bredagh, but the lads dominated the opening half with superb half-back play from Michael Magee, Declan O'Hara and Cormac White who raced through to score his first ever point for the club. Donal Hughes and Conal Devlin both had shots rebound off the post and although Cormac Hughes, Niall Wright and Dermot Colton kicked points, the home side hit us on the break with a goal and the scores were level at half-time. Newtown took the lead with a scrambled goal and two points on the restart, but the gutsy Bredagh lads fought back and were terribly unlucky to have a penalty saved. Paddy Woods claimed a brilliant consolation point as we went out of the Féile with our heads held high.

On the bench, but raring to go. Everyone played their part.

SKILLS WINNER: Cormac Hughes won the competition between the four teams in our group. He missed with one kick and was given a time penalty but he squeezed home by 0.6 of a second to the semi-finals in Pomeroy on Saturday evening. Cormac again performed well but narrowly missed out on the final.

LEAGUE SETBACK: The boys lost at home to Downpatrick on Tuesday night, July 6. Unfortunately, we had to play this important fixture with a depleted squad because of holidays and the team was tired after the efforts at the Féile at the weekend. The defeat has dashed out League hopes after the heroics at Carryduff last week. A request for a postponement was made, but unlike the previous week when Downpatrick agreed to a switch of our U-12 Championship game, they were unable to facilitate us this time.

Carryduff 2-2 Bredagh 3-7, Tuesday June 29
This was an amazing turnaround from seven days earlier when Bredagh lost a Championship match at the same venue by a full fourteen points. This time, Carryduff were held scoreless in the entire first-half and were beaten in the end by eight points. Bredagh fully deserved their win after showing terrific tenacity throughout the hour and plenty of skill in picking off some brilliant late scores. Goalkeeper Sean Armstrong saved a penalty but they were all heroes. Bredagh led by 1-2 to no score at the break. Carryduff rallied and ten minutes into the second-half they led by 2-2 to 1-2. It looked over, but this Bredagh team never gives up and they weren't about to lose at Carryduff for the second week in succession. They dug deep and overwhelmed their neighbours with Dermot Colton and Michael McAllister at full-back playing their best-ever games for the club. Bredagh now have three points from three games in the A League, while Carryduff have none. That means we are still very much in the race for the title with Bryansford and Downpatrick.

Bredagh 0-9 Bryansford 0-9, Tuesday June 15
This was a very creditable performance by the home side as they lost to Bryansford by a big margin only a few weeks ago and we had the disappointment of losing our first game in the restructured top section last week at Downpatrick by two points. Bryansford are a revered side but Bredagh showed once again that they can compete with the best. We led by 0-7 t 0-2 at the break and gave a top side a real fright.

Downpatrick 0-14 Bredagh 2-5, Tuesday June 8
On the face of it, this was a disappointing start to the restructured four-team League but the real story is one of guts, skill and tenacity. Bredagh were without some key players and were up against a much bigger Downpatrick side on their home pitch, yet the boys did themselves proud by pushing the unbeaten Section A winners all the way to the finishing line. Michael 'Diddles' Magee epitomised the team effort with a typically brave triple-block early in the first-half. This lifted the team and they traded scores with Paddy Woods, Niall Nolan and even centre-half-back Declan O'Hara popping up to score points. However, the best score came when Bredagh trailed by 0-7 to 0-3. Sean Armstrong's excellent kick-out went straight to Dermot Colton, then he passed to Ruairi Johnston and his pinpoint pass set up Sean Irwin for a goal. We levelled a few minutes later and again early in the second-half when Irwin again burst through the home defences to thump a superb left-footed shot past the bemused goalkeeper. The Downpatrick supporters were getting a bit edgy at this stage as their prize team was being upstaged by a smaller Bredagh side. Eventually they scraped the win, but their keeper had to scramble one chance off the line onto a post, and Dermot Colton had a penalty claim turned down.

TEAM & SCORERS: Sean Armstrong, Pearse Leitch, Matthew McAfee, Damien Moreland, Cormac White, Declan O'Hara 0-1, Michael Magee, Niall Nolan 0-2, Cormac Hughes, Donal Hughes, Ruairi Johnston, Dermot Colton, Marcus Young, Paddy Woods 0-1, Sean Irwin 2-1. Subs: Paddy Hannity, Aaron Moreland and Daniel Nolan (all used).

Saul 1-2 Bredagh 2-13, Tuesday June1
The lads got back to winning ways with this convincing victory over Saul in the championship. After an all-to-familiar shaky start, scores soon came along with a goal and two points from Niall Nolan and further points from Sean Irwin (2) and Cormac Hughes, Paddy Woods and Peter Graham. Saul's solitary reply was a point towards the end of the half. The use of all five substitutes in the second half helped to keep the momentum going going and while Saul did manage a goal and a point in this period, further scores from the ever lively Niall Wright (0-4), Paddy Hannity with a real opportunist goal, Niall Nolan (0-1) and Marcus Young (0-1), left Bredagh the victors. A comfortable winning margin in the end but credit to Saul who, had it not been for Bredagh's hard-working defence (with substitute Nathan Moreland and the half-back line of Michael Magee, Declan O'Hara and Cormac White particularly prominent) might have made the scoreline a lot closer.

TEAM:Team: Sean Armstrong, Damien Moreland, Matthew McAfee, Pearse Leitch, Michael Magee, Declan O'Hara, Cormac White, Cormac Hughes, Ryan McAlinden, Dermot Colton, Niall Nolan, Peter Graham, Sean Irwin, Paddy Woods, Aaron Moreland. Subs Used: Paddy Hannity, Nathan Moreland, Marcus Young, Donal Hughes.

Bryansford 8-13 Bredagh 6-7, Tuesday, May 25
All good things come to an end and so it was for Bredagh when a much physically stronger Bryansford side (also unbeaten going into the match) gained a well deserved victory in this, our eight league encounter.
Bredagh suffered a pre-match blow when Niall Nolan was forced to withdraw due to illness, despite having travelled to the game. Worse was to follow when our goalkeeper Sean Armstrong had to go off injured. These setbacks, combined with a storming performance from the Bryansford midfielder in particular, allowed the home team to build up a commanding 6 goals 7 points by half time, with a goal from Sean Irwin being Bredagh's solitary reply. To their credit, the lads, urged on by a rousing half-time call from the team coaches, picked up considerably in the second half. Goals from Sean Irwin and Cormac Hughes and points from Declan O'Hara, Niall Wright and Cormac Hughes were combined with a considerable improvement in defence but Bryansford nevertheless ran out convincing winners in the end. Bitter disappointment for all the players in the end, but the important thing is to learn from this defeat and to come back better than before.

Drumaness 0-5 Bredagh 3-10, Tuesday May 18
The scoreline suggests another comprehensive victory but had a lively Drumaness side brought their shooting boots then Bredagh would have been facing possible defeat. Despite scoring four fine points, a succession of wides by the home side allowed Bredagh to take a half time lead of 5 points with rather fortuitous goals from Marcus Young and Dermot Colton and points from Donal Hughes, and Niall Wright (2). Scoring opportunities continued to come for Drumaness on the resumption but several chances went amiss as they registered a solitary point over the second half. To their credit our lads were certainly not as wasteful and proceeded to tot up a second half tally of 1-7 with a further goal from Marcus Young and points from Dermot Colton (2) and Niall Nolan, Donal Hughes, Conal Devlin, Niall Wright, and Paddy Woods who livened up the forward line considerably when coming on as a second half substitute.

Féile Report, Saturday May 15
Two victories out of three games at the Feile Preliminary Competition in Drumaness unfortunately failed to be enough for the qualification for the finals proper. Drawn to play a much stronger An Riocht side in their first match, the lads took some time to get into their stride and despite points from Paddy Woods and Niall Wright, they trailed by four points at the break.
Further points from Niall Nolan and Conal Devlin narrowed the gap but two goals from the impressive An Riocht team left them eventual winners, and Bredagh were left requiring victory in their remaining two matches to have any chance. The lads certainly delivered with wins over Drumaness by three points (Paddy Hannity 1-0, Paddy Woods 0-2, Niall Wright 0-3, Niall Nolan 0-1, Conal Devlin 0-1) and Loughinisland by the narrowest of margins (Sean Irwin 1-0, Dermot Colton 0-1, Niall Wright 0-1). However, An Riocht had three wins out of three and went through. A valiant effort by all 23 lads present, all of whom got a game or two.

SQUAD: Sean Armstrong, Gabriel Doran, Michael Coffey, Damien Moreland, Cormac White, Matthew McAfee, Donal McKegney, Michael Guerin, Pearse Leitch, Michael Magee, Declan O'Hara, Nathan Moreland, Ryan McAlinden, Niall Nolan, Dermot Colton, Marcus Young, Aaron Moreland, Paddy Woods, Niall Wright, Sean Irwin, Paddy Hannity, Conal Devlin, and Daniel Nolan.

Bredagh 11-9 Darragh Cross 0-1, Tuesday May 6
With more challenging encounters on the horizon, there was little for the two Damiens and Maurice to learn from this easy victory against Darragh Cross. An early goal by Dermot Colton set the pattern for a succession of scores from Niall Wright (3-2), Cormac Hughes (1-1), Sean Irwin (1-0) and Niall Nolan (0-2), being countered by a solitary point from the visitors to leave the half time score 6-5 to 0-1. The lads certainly didn’t ease off in the second half and a number of subs grabbed their opportunity with some fine scores, including Paddy Woods with an impressive goal and two points, and points from Peter Graham and Conal Doherty. First half scorers Sean Irwin and Cormac Hughes added further goals, and the team management were rewarded for agreeing to Damien Moreland's plea for an opportunity up front when he also cracked in a goal. That’s five out of five, but there's certainly no room for complacency with two difficult away league games coming up against Drumaness (18th May) and Bryansford (25th May).

TEAM: Sean Armstrong, Damien Moreland, Mattew McAfee, Donal McKegney, Cormac Whyte, Declan O'Hara, Pearse Leitch, Ryan McAlinden, Cormac Hughes, Donal Hughes, Niall Nolan, Dermot Colton, Sean Irwin, Niall Wright, Aaron Moreland. Subs used: Paddy Woods, Michael Magee, Conal Doherty, Paddy Hannity, Peter Graham.

Bredagh 5-16 Ardglass 1-2, April 27
Unbeaten Bredagh swept to this most convincing victory against their overwhelmed Ardglass opponents. Playing with a strong breeze, the boys gradually built up a huge lead in the first half with Niall Nolan, Donal Hughes, Niall Wright, Sean Irwin and the hard working Conal Doherty particularly to the fore. With limited pressure from the Ardglass lads, even Declan O'Hara could afford a foray into the attack for a great point and when half time arrived the score was Bredagh 2-13 Ardglass 1-0. Despite a number of substitutions, Bredagh kept piling on the pressure in the second half. Points from Ruairi Johnston, Paddy Woods and Peter Graham were supplemented by two goals from Sean Irwin and one goal from Ryan McAlinden, with Ryan claiming that it was the only way he was going to get a mention in the match report! Another fine effort from the lads but room for further improvement before confronting the big guns!
TEAM & SCORERS: Sean Armstrong, Damien Moreland, Mattew McAfee, Donal McKegney, Cormac White, Declan O'Hara 0-1, Pearse Leitch, Ryan McAlinden 1-0, Cormac Hughes, Donal Hughes 0-2, Niall Nolan 0-5, Conal Doherty 0-1, Sean Irwin 3-1, Niall Wright 1-2), Aaron Moreland 0-1. Subs used: Ruairi Johnston 0-1, Paddy Woods 0-1, Peter Graham, 0-1, Michael Magee, Michael Guerin, Gabriel Doran, Michael Coffey, Marcus Young.

Kilclief 1-2 Bredagh 6-9, Tuesday April 20
After a setback against neighbours St Brides in a challenge match on Sunday, Bredagh got back to winning ways on the competitive front with a comprehensive victory against Kilclief. Played in atrocious conditions, the lads totally dominated the first-half, leading at the break by 2-7 to no score. Goalpoacher supreme Sean Irwin led the way with two goals, with Niall Wright (0-4), Cormac Hughes (0-2) and Dermot Colton (0-1) also prominent.

Bredagh's dominance continued in the second-half with further goals from Niall Wright, Sean Irwin, Cormac Hughes and Niall Nolan (a well-taken penalty) and points from substitutes Conal Doherty and Conal Devlin. While Kilclief did manage a goal and two points during this period the winning margin could well have been greater had it not have been for a tendancy to go for goals when points were there for the taking along with a five-star performance from the Kilclief goalkeeper. Not a night for the faint hearted, but our Bredagh lads are obviously made of stern stuff!

TEAM: Sean Armstrong, Damien Moreland, Mathew McAfee, Donal McKegney, Michael Magee, Declan O'Hara, Pearse Leitch, Ryan McAlindan, Cormac Hughes, Donal Hughes, Niall Nolan, Dermot Colton, Aaron Moreland, Niall Wright, Sean Irwin. Subs used: Conal Devlin, Conal Doherty, Michael Guerin, Peter Graham, Marcus Young.

Bredagh 10-9 Teconnaught 1-4 - Tuesday April 13
The boys continued where they left off against Loughinisland when they overwhelmed Teconnaught at Cherryvale. Showing some superb movement on and off the ball, Bredagh quickly ran up a massive score to kill off the game as a contest by half time. Chief among the scorers in this half was Sean Irwin with a superb tally of four goals, but equally prominent were Conal Doherty (2-0), Aaron Moreland (1-0), Conal Devlin and Niall Nolan (0-2 each) and Donal Hughes (0-1). Great work by the backs, in particular Michael Magee, Pearse Leitch and Declan O'Hara, confined Teconnaught to a solitary point to leave the score 7-5 to 0-1 at half time.
With a number of changes and with Bredagh taking their foot of the pedal, the second half was a quieter affair and Teconnaught scored 1-3 before further Bredagh scores from Aaron Moreland (1-0), Paddy Hannity (1-0), Declan O'Hara (0-2), and points from Conal Devlin and Paddy Woods. A great start to the league, but there's no room for complacency as there will surely be stiffer contests to come.
TEAM: Sean Armstrong, Damien Moreland, Matthew McAfee, Donal McKegney, Michael Magee, Declan O'Hara, Pearse Leitch, Cormac Hughes, Niall Nolan, Donal Hughes, Aaron Moreland, Paddy Hannity, Conal Devlin, Sean Irwin, Conal Doherty. Subs Used: Paddy Woods, Michael Coffey, Emmett Loughrey, Nathan Moreland, Gabriel Doran.

Loughinisland 0-3 Bredagh 4-8 - Tuesday April 6th
Missing a number of players who are likely to be panel regulars this season, the U-14s nevertheless got their league campaign off to a great start with a fully merited 17-point win. Well-taken scores by Marcus Young (0-1), Dermot Colton (1-0), Niall Nolan (0-1), Sean Irwin (1-0) and the in-form Niall Wright (2-1) left Bredagh with a commanding 4-3 to no-score lead at half-time. While three early second-half points by the home team suggested a possible comeback, the Bredagh lads regained the initiative and further points by Aaron Moreland (0-2), Dermot Colton (0-1) and Player of the Match Niall Wright (0-2) left Bredagh easy winners in the end.
TEAM: Sean Armstrong, Damien Moreland, Matthew McAfee, Donal McKegney, Michael Magee, Ryan McAlinden, Pearse Leitch, Cormac Hughes, Aaron Moreland, Dermot Colton, Marcus Young, Niall Wright, Sean Irwin. Subs used: Conal Doherty, Michael Guerin, Paddy Woods, Gabriel Doran.

Donaghmore 5-6 Bredagh 5-6 – Sunday March 28th
Two years ago Eugene McKenna was on the sideline for Tyrone, but on Sunday March 28th he had to contend with Bredagh U-14s as the Belfast side gave an excellent account of themselves in an entertaining 5-6 to 5-6 draw against Eugene's Donaghmore side. First-half goals from Sean Irwin (2) and Marcus Young had Bredagh well in control, while Ruairi Johnston and Conal Devlin added points for an eight-point advantage at the break. The superb Cormac Hughes scored the point of the game in the second-half, making a great catch and beating two players before shooting over the bar.
TEAM: Daniel Kelly, Damien Moreland, Cormac White, Pearse Leitch, Donal McKegney, Declan O'Hara, Michael (Diddles) Magee, Cormac Hughes, Ryan McAlinden, Ruairi Johnston, Niall Nolan, Conal Devlin, Marcus Young, Sean Irwin, Conal Doherty. Subs (all used): Emmett Loughrey, Rowan Blaney, Aaron Moreland, Packie King.
