Championship Reports
Indoor Hurling 2005
The Indoor Hurling craze all started on Sunday, January 9th, at the Rosario Youth Club from 9.30am-11.00 and continues every Sunday. It was a very successful first day with a great turn-out and all of the 28 players really enjoying the new game.
In future weeks, please bring a helmet if you have one and £1.00 per week. Special indoor hurls are provided. The U-10s must be 9-years-old or under on 31/12/2004 and the U-12s must be 11-years-old or under on 31/12/2004.
Bredagh has started sessions on Sunday mornings for U-10s and U-12s, and has also joined the North Antrim Indoor Hurling League. On their debut last Saturday, January 15th, the U-12s competed superbly in Larne.
Results
Bredagh 4 Glenshesk 10
Bredagh 2 Cushendall 6
Bredagh 6 Larne 5
Panel and Scorers: Ciaran McFarland, Niall Irwin 1-0, Michael Cassidy 1-0, Ronan McKegney 1-0, Joseph Shields, Jack Hollywood, Kaelan Devlin 3-0, Tim Durkan 6-0.
Report: Bredagh were the first match up against favourites Glenshesk and without any knowledge of the rules they gave a commendable performance, scoring four goals, the most scored against Glenshesk over the tournament. The score was 3-2 for Glenshesk at half-time when Bredagh thought the match was over! The second match against Cushendall was tighter than the score suggests with Bredagh holding their opponents scoreless in the second-half, mainly due to some great goalkeeping from Ciaran McFarland. In the final match Bredagh were losing 5-4 at half time but played superbly to record their first win in the tournament. Top scorer Tim Durkan scored five goals. Overall the team did Bredagh proud in their first outing in this type of competition with Player of the Tournament Kaelan Devlin surprising the supporters from North Antrim with his high quality hurling display. This Saturday Bredagh complete their League games against St Enda's, St Teresa's and Shane ONeill's, Glenarm. Depending on the results, we will be seeded for the Finals which will be in the third and final week. After this, the Under-10 competition will start.
Blitz at Portaferry, October 9
Bredagh drew one match and lost two. Ballycran beat us by 2-2 to 0-0 - we started slowly, as usual, and conceded the 2-2 before half-time. We were excellent in the second-half. We then drew with Ballygalget, 1-0 each - a great match and a well-earned draw. In Match Three, Portaferry beat us by 4-0 to 0-0 though the scoreline doesn't reflect how well Bredagh played without a mumber of key players. Our best performances on the day were from James Day, James Cormican and Ben Horner.
Bredagh 6-3 Carryduff 2-1, Saturday October 2 The home side showed great skills and commitment in the rain to defeat their neighbours.
Portaferry 5-7 Bredagh 5-0, Saturday September 4 The team has had a tough year mixing it with the big guns from the Ards but they came as close as they have ever come to causing an upset in this game. The Belfast boys scored five goals against the previously unbeaten Portaferry in a terrific display. It was their closest game of the season so far and at times there was only a goal in it. Apparently a few 'home-town' decisions went their way, which is a good sign - they're worried about us!
